Sigornery Weaver as Secretary of State with ambitions toward the White House. Her ex is a former president. She has a gay, drug addict son, and one who isn't either. Her mother (Ellen Burstyne) is an alcoholic. Good cast, but it suffers from mediocre writing. Worth watching, though, I think.

(1,946 posts)I watched the first season, and your description is pretty correct. And I agree it was worth it. I had heard they got the go ahead for a second season but have not seen anything about it recently. Just wondering if it's coming on soon.

(20,886 posts)If they are doing a single season, they did a piss poor job of ending it.

(1,946 posts)Yes, I thought the ending really left it open for a sequel or second season. Too bad, it would have been fun to see Sigourney Weaver's character get into the White House.
I think my main complaint with the series as a whole was that there was too much drama in the family. I wouldn't expect the family to be perfect but each one of them had some kind of issue, even Grandma! I realize that's why they were all there--to create lots of story lines, but it was a little over the top I think. Still I did watch it all, so it wasn't too bad.

(47,613 posts)I love political dramas and this one started okay, but it got too soap opera-ish and predictable. After I watched that, I went back and watched The West Wing again and my hunger for good political drama was appeased.
I don't know how many times I've watched The West Wing, but it never gets old and I always get something new out of it.
