Does anyone here have a subscription to Fold3?..

I would like to ask a favor. I don't want to sign up for their 10 day free trial if I don't have to. I'm kinda afraid to do that.

I would appreciate a look-up on the following:

This is from Family Search

Thomas J D Lance
52d Infantry
NARA Publication Title:
Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers Who Served in Organizations from the State of Georgia
NARA Publication Number:
M266
NARA Roll Number:
518

This is from Fold3

State:Georgia
Short Description: NARA M266. Compiled service records of Confederate soldiers from Georgia units, labeled with each soldier's name, rank, and unit, with links to revealing documents about each soldier.
Givenname:Thomas J D
Surname:Lance

During that period of his life he was married to my gggrandmother who died after giving birth to their second child we assume. He soon after married again and he and the second wife brought up the 2 children from his first marriage along with a slew of ther own.

I'm hoping some of his military records will mention his first wife and children because all other records were lost in a fire in Georgia. Even if they don't maybe just having more info about his military service would lead me to other places. If they have quite a bit of info that might be helpful I would buy a subscription.

Thanks, LS

The card states he volunteered 4 Mar 186(_) year not filled in.
at M___ton (I can't read the town name, but if you give me a location I might be able to verify that is what it says)
by W. W Brown for a period of 3 years. He was paid a bounty of $50 on 13 Apr 1862.

Company H of 52 Regiment of Georgia Infantry.

This is all the information on these 2 cards. There are no other cards in this file for Thomas Lance.

It must be Morganton which is in Fannin County, GA. I know they were from that area.

Wiki says "52nd Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company H, Fannin Rifles." They give the additional words Fannin Rifles.

I have no clue what any of that means.

I wonder what else I can find out with this information or even where else I should look. I am hoping that the military has his wife listed somewhere.

Thanks again, LS

But this usually happened years after the war and may not list the first wife's information.

Here's a link to the Georgia State Archives, maybe you will find some clues here:

Good Luck!

ps I believe Morganton is the correct town name on the card.
