I watch a lot of cooking videos.
Almost all of them apparently are using brand new pots and pans straight out of the box.
Not a scratch or a mar.
Not one little brown spot.
I'd like to see them using something like what we have.

(9,177 posts)looked like my moms pots and pans. When I got out of school one of the first things I did was buy good quality cookware.

(111,261 posts)Asian cooks are good about it because food tends to weld to brand new woks. They take a bit of seasoning before they stop making the cook look silly as s/he tries to chip protein foods off the surface.
The most beat up pots and pans are used by someone whose down home recipes are good, but you need to skip 2/3 of the video because she's into heavy religious proselytizing, can't recommend.
This is a rather idealized series from China but everything is refreshingly blackened, dinged, and dented: https://www.youtube.com/c/cnliziqi
The Bitchin Kitchen uses well cleaned cookware but it's not all new. Presentation is not what you're used to but the recipes I've tried are great. Look fast, a lot of the videos have disappeared.
I get a little annoyed at the brand new cookware, too. Every good cook I know uses castoffs from family or thrift shop finds, bake ware from the supermarket.

(2,674 posts)Don't remember where it all came from. I love to go to estate sales and always make ae bee-line to the kitchen to see what treasures are there.

(111,261 posts)with a tiny urban style kitchen. Everything is there, but it's cramped. I gave a lot of my kitchen stuff to the neighbors who'd helped me when I broke my hip but I still prefer my own cooking so I kept enough. Things like the stockpots, the big sauciere, the Le Creuset I could barely lift, the large wok, the stand mixer and other space gobbling appliances are gone.
My favorite kitchen of all time was an 8x8 urban kitchen, so I know I'll adapt easily to this one. To tell the truth, I honestly don't miss any of the stuff I gave away and my helpful neighbors were absolutely thrilled.
What I have left is still mismatched and funky and I like it that way.
