And I don't know about anyone else, but it's always been frustrating for me to follow the cooking instructions to flip them half way through the cooking time. To me, that's always been a pain in the butt and I never seemed to get them cooked all the way through because who wants to stand there and turn them over one at the time to make sure they all got turned.
Some time back, I decided to try something different and it works beautifully. I use the toaster oven, set on Bake, for 20-25 minutes, then instead of flipping the fries themselves, I flip the toaster oven setting from bake to broil for the last 5 minutes. They come out nice and crispy all the way around, with nicely browned edges and completely done all the way through.
(I know some of you have air fryers. I don't so not sure what the process is for this.)
ETA: I don't have an air fryer and don't want one. Not to mention I haven't anymore room for another appliance.

(9,265 posts)Shake the basket halfway through cooking. Different brands/types call for different cook times, just check periodically until browned to your liking. Use highest temp. Makes wonderful tater tots too.

(7,504 posts)I have found a spritz of olive oil- and start them at a low temp to cook the all the way through, around 300 then 400 for last ten minutes. I usually shake basket once. I find if I put them on high from start outside is beyond crispy by time center is cooked. Your mileage may vary.
