(272 posts)It's way too big for one serving, but it lasts several days. And I'm going to make that divine Tyler Florence Ultimate Potato Gratin again, except that instead of 2 1/2 cups of heavy cream I'm going to substitute half and half to see if I can get away with something just, or almost, as flavorful, but without many of the calories. And peas with prosciutto and shallots. For dessert: Alka-Seltzer.

(35,706 posts)I put in: chopped celery, scallions, chopped hardboiled egg, small amt. of orange pepper, fresh peas, steamed and cooled, 1 scant T honey, cayenne, and pecans. Mixed them all together with enough mayo to coat.
Now if you want a good laugh, here is where I got the recipe: my childhood. I was wondering how it was made, so I consulted a cookbook my mother gave me decades ago called "The Lutheran Ladies' Salad Cookbook." Unfortunately, even though they had around 8 versions of his recipe, there were none that had pecans.
So I just did my own version of this recipe, according to a childhood memory. It would be circa 1965, Nebraska.
