(10,170 posts)My spouse hates the disruption, so since he is traveling I'm pushing to get the bulk of it done while he is away. Deadlines can be so clarifying! No special orders allowed; having to chose from what's available etc.... Easy dinners, too!
PM me any wisdom you have about countertops.

(31,170 posts)if I were doing it again, i'd either use soapstone or polished concrete.

... that need to be used, too -- so at this point, I'm not sure if I'm going
to be making up a big batch of spaghetti sauce or beef stroganoff yet.
I got a grill "basket" of sorts and I'm tempted to grill the crumbled
ground beef just to see what that does to the taste of my spaghetti sauce.
The more I think about it, the curiouser and curiouser I get.

Anybody ever do this?

(35,678 posts)Boy do I miss being able to cook my healthy meals. Due to this plumbing thing, I am on my third day of being without a kitchen. It is now fixed but there is a huge cleanup job. I may not get it done today because of other obligations. Everything in my kitchen has to be scrubbed, bleached, and steamed for sanitation.
Last night I pretty much went without because it was just too difficult to find anything without a ton of sodium in it. A caring friend bought me a bottle of wine!
I feel for people who can't or don't want to cook, because it is damn difficult in America to get low-sodium, low-fat food that isn't also inundated with sugar.

But if I can cook something, I'll come back and post it later. All you lucky cooks out there with a clean, serviceable kitchen, count your blessings!
Glad you're back, LivetoHike. I missed reading your always-interesting menus.

(146,218 posts)After our road trip, I spent several weeks on the boat while it was invaded by workers who had the floors pulled up every day. I really missed my kitchen.
Hope you find something to eat and more wine.

(146,218 posts)We are leaving here tomorrow and will be able to get groceries, so I want to make something I can leave with our good friend who will be staying here with limited supplies.
And I think I can scrape together a salad.

(35,678 posts)It's called Vegetable Burger Masala. They served it with a slice of fresh pineapple at the TJ's tasting and I have pineapple, so I think I'll have it that way.
In addition, I found a stunning looking head of frisee'. It will make the most beautiful salad.
For dessert, rice pudding with sliced strawberries.
