(111,277 posts)just a poor man's Cuban with gluten free bread, cheese and smoked turkey pressed between 2 hot frypans until the outside is toasted and the innards are hot.
Tomorrow is Bolognese sauce day. Tomorrow night I will be decadent.

simple but good and satisfying!
We are about to go on vacation to the beach for two weeks - hope to have mostly local seafood simply cooked - rotating scallops, shrimp and tuna!

(106,886 posts)Members have so many different tastes and takes on food. Love it when I go "Whoa, hadn't thought of that." Or "Geez, I forgot that one."
What I enjoy overall is making a tasty meal from what I have on hand. Doesn't always work. Sometimes it's a knock out meal. But I love the whole thing. Like trying out new stuff.
And there's always the reliable deli down the street or your basic reheated left overs, a grilled cheese, or a PB & J.

(29,098 posts)Often it is simple like a perfectly poached egg on frise with lardon. Or steamed chicken with shiritaki noodles in broth with sri racha. Lately I have been getting great prices on wild salmon which I pan sear and serve with steamed spinach. I did go all out with a fantastic risotto the other day but that's because it's Chanterelle time here in PNW and I have a connection and get them for a ridiculously cheap price. I also did a wild mushroom ragout at the same time and stuck it in the freezer for later.
So it's all relative. I am a very competent cook so I am able to make delicious and reasonably priced food without a great deal of fuss.

(7,349 posts)I talk about food a lot, but I don't eat very much at all, and rarely cook anything that you could consider decadent.

(22,721 posts)Because of an ulcer, I don't eat as much as I used to. Sure helps keep the weight off.

(20,277 posts)I can't afford decadent on a regular basis. I try to have at least 1 or 2 dinners a week without meat.
I usually make run of the mill dinners. As long as it tastes good, it doesn't have to be fancy.

My favorite meals are small plates stretched out over a relatively long period of time.
And my weight has been pretty much the same through my entire adult life.
It also means that I can eat just about anything, because I never eat much of it.....
except cheese fondue. All the signals seem to not work when it comes to that stuff, lol.

(2,674 posts)Good wholesome food, low fat, lots of dry beans, pasta, fresh fruit and vegetables, low on meat. And I try to get more than one meal off what I have cooked. That said I nearly always cook a big Sunday dinner with a homemade dessert.

(10,170 posts)Tend to have a bigger meal at lunch and the second half for dinner. I work late so sometimes if I am tired, it's just a hunk of good cheese and an apple or ancient grain crackers. A bit addicted to pasta though... add some greens and I'm done.
Have lots of spices and seasonings plus using good quality ingredients can make simple a good meal!
I enjoy reading the folks here because I like listening to what others enjoy.
What's decadent about beans and cornbread?

... so I rarely cook "decadently" anymore. I used to like to spend all day in the kitchen, but
now it's more, "What can I throw together in the shortest amount of time?
