However, powdered sugar shaken through a paper doily is wonderful. Granulated sugar with either milk or an egg wash is even better, looks like diamonds on the surface.
Most of the art school grads I know went into food in one way or another. This is what happens when they get really bored.

Sprinkle that on an egg-washed pie crust. The large crystals on the egg glaze is a simple but pretty decoration.
