The wax paper bags that cereal comes in are great for storing fruit and veggies

Found out by accident a couple years ago when I ran out of plastic bags.

These bags seem to keep things fresher for a longer period of time. I have a two week old stalk of celery in the fridge that shows no sign of browning.

I have stored all kinds of fresh produce this way. If you have kids, or eat dry cereal yourself, start saving them. Give it a shot, and see if it works for you too.

Cool. And the Captain Crunch crumbs will make the celery delicious! SunSeeker Jul 2015 #1

I can't keep chocolate cereal in the house. It disappears too fast. SunSeeker Jul 2015 #3
I don't eat dry cereal but a few in the house do...none of the bags are wax paper any more, though. Kali Jul 2015 #4

everything seems to be hard to open regular tough plastic now. rather than buy gallon size bags, I steal a few extra fresh vegetable bags from the produce dept.

celery keeps forever in my experience (if it isn't wet). even if it goes limp you can revive it by sticking it in ice cold water for an hour or so. same with cut carrot sticks.
