Home grown green beans from the freezer. Cherry tomato salad. Sauteed cabbage with leeks, cumin, garlic, turmeric. Lots of leftovers for the week ahead.

Meatballs sound good to me!

I would like to incorporate my cabbage in my diet but can't find interesting but easy recipes.
My mother used to boil cabbage until it was totally limp. I don't want to do that.

Throw in some chopped garlic, cumin (crushed seeds are best, but powdered works well, too), turmeric and let that saute for a couple minutes, then add the cabbage (very thinly sliced--like sauerkraut) and a small amount of water or broth and cook until tender, but not mushy. I usually cook about 3/4 head of cabbage, 2-3 garlic cloves, 1 leek or small onion, 2 tsp. cumin seeds (crushed) or 1 tsp. powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric, salt/pepper to taste. It comes out a lovely yellow color. Lots of folks like pepper vinegar or hot sauce on this dish. Some folks like sweet/sour/hot relish.

It takes most of the day, and the ingredients combined create something special. Those ingredients are not put in the pot at once, but are added at the right time so that you do not get mushy cabbage.

I think you need to love corned beef to like it though. I like to think of it like the Reuben sandwich. I love that sandwich: corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, thousand island dressing, and rye bread.

You could slop it all together, but it would not be a proper Reuben. I have my steps for it. It is my favorite sandwich.

For something that costs 20 cents a pound, cabbage is cool.

I grew up on cabbage in dinner recipes. (Must be the New England thing.) Now, I always have a head in the fridge, waiting for the next recipe. One of my faves is using cabbage in veggie lo mein, with carrots, bean spouts and green onions.

Can't wait until corned beef goes on sale!

I got the sauce going on the stove, with meatballs and sausage. The house smells divine. I noticed I have 3 lbs of ziti in the pantry, so I'll cook up some of that. And, a Caesar salad to boot.

The potatoes roasted with a bit of olive oil in the oven and the steak cooked on the George Foreman. Salad on the side.

Isn't it weird that George Foreman is now known mainly as a name attached to a kitchen appliance?

My meatballs are in the oven with the sauce. Will be ready to come out in about 15". Yes, the aromas in the house are wonderful!

Japple, I swear, your menus always have me salivating. I think it's the variety of dishes you make and the wholesome nature of them.
