2. Reporting on a brunch

We went today to a nice local place, the Green Turtle Market/Grapevine Cafe, in Indian Harbor Beach. I had a version of Eggs Benedict that was unreal: muffin, spinach, Canadian bacon, a crab cake, poached egg, and Hollandaise. Wow! Hubby had a version that was on flatbread and more Meditteranean, while my daughter had the yellowfin ahi tuna poke - sesame seared tuna chunks, toasted macadamia nuts, green onions, & grilled avocado with a power green soy citrus kale salad. First cheat from low-carbing in weeks, and it was well worth it.

We were in heaven, but found enough strength to cruise around the market and grab a few things for dinner: stuffed chicken breast and asparagus, a sugar-free chocolate mousse for me, a mini raspberry-topped cheesecake for daughter.

I think we need to make this place a regular destination...the raw seafood offerings were gorgeous and the prices were lower than where I've been shopping. Both the prepared dishes and the ingredients there were gorgeous. And rooms filled with wine!

It sounded so good that I looked up the menu. I'm going to tell the RG about it. He travels to that area on business.

with fettuccine. (clams, mussels, squid, shrimp in a red sauce).

Was going to make a gravy, but I'm beef/porked out. It's the tomatoes that I have a craving for today.

ps: Oops, forgot: cod fish and octopus, too.

5. Colorful chicken rice soup

Still emptying the freezer and refrigerator.

Chicken stock made from a rotisserie chicken
A breast from a rotisserie chicken
Orange bell pepper
Yellow bell pepper
Green celery
Purple onion
Brown Mushrooms
White rice

Garlic, thyme, salt and pepper.

I sauteed the veggies and garlic in olive oil until softened and set them aside until the stock and rice were cooking and added them back in. I rarely do this step and just cook the veggies in the stock, but I felt the mushrooms needed it.

turmeric while I sauteed the veggies (I used onion, celery, carrot, turnip.) After I added the chicken stock, I added thinly shredded cabbage and let it cook for a bit and then added the already-cooked rice and shredded chicken.

Mine was good soup, but I wasn't thrilled with my seasoning. Turmeric would have been a good addition. I added some smoked paprika that seemed to help both the taste and color. I was thinking of my old standby fix of McCormick Curry Powder, but had none on hand.

flavor. It was a nice-looking center-cut pork loin that I seared in a dutch oven after searing the onions and carrots, but there wasn't much fat on the meat and I probably should have done a marinade and put it in a crockpot. At least the vegetables turned out well. We had mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus, and cabbage steamed with leeks and turmeric. Broccoli/tomato salad with peppers and green onions.
