first visit to the vet!

Eddie got a treatment with Revolution for his ear mites; another to be given in three weeks. Hopefully this will stop the scratching he's been doing around his neck and chin, so much so that he's taken off some of the fur. And the other two cats also need a one-time treatment and I'll be giving that this afternoon after I get home.

He had his distemper booster, so he's all set until next year on immunizations.

He's also got a little gingivitis and I took home something called OrZn, a liquid "neutralized zinc" that you brush onto the teeth with a finger. Really need to teach him to tolerate brushing with a toothbrush, but we'll see.

But the big surprise: he's not 2 years old. The vet says he's only about 1 year old, by the look of his teeth. Also, if he were a 2 year old tomcat (he was just neutered), he would have developed big tomcat jowls, and he really doesn't have any--nor will he now, because that is due to the testosterone. So I learned something new about cats today!

He's really active and playful so I had suspected he was younger. He's been doing well with the two older cats, though and I think it will work out fine.

All tuckered out after the vet visit:

I didn't know about "tomcat jowls". I will have to pay more attention to cats that wander into the neighborhood on occasion and notice their jowls if they are intact.

You have a beautiful kitty there. I have a beautiful orange boy too.

He looks like a younger, thinner version of my Freddie, who is 8 and definitely "filled out" (like 18-20 lbs).
Love his name! My grandcat is Edward, named for the Twilight vampire, and I call him Eddie but my daughter and her husband do not. He is also orange and the friendliest cat ever.

But my husband prefers Eddie. We've had him only since Jan. 25th, but my husband says, "he's the perfect cat" over and over.

He is a really friendly boy. And he may fill out a bit yet too, if he's really just one year old like the vet thinks.

He's winning over our other two cats--will not be deterred. So sociable with both cats and humans!

My other name for him right now is Puddin' because he's like buttterscotch pudding. But "Eddie" is the official name.
