Thousands of dog owners worldwide are blaming a popular flea medication for harming their pets, according to Channel 2 Action News consumer investigator Jim Strickland.

FDA reports obtained by Channel 2 show Bravecto is suspected in 355 deaths since the pill's release in 2014.

The drug comes in chewable form and is reportedly powerful enough to kill fleas and ticks for three months with just one dose.

It makes me wonder if some people gave it to there dogs once per month instead of once every 3 months as directed. Even with time release, I don't think I would want to give my animal something so strong that it works for 3 whole months.

One lady gave it to two of her dogs. One died and the other dog had a seizure immediately after. It was the only thing she had done differently and the dogs weren't old.

I think it could just be certain dogs react to certain meds. But I don't trust any of the newer ones.

there is no evidence that Bravecto has killed any dogs. This might be fake news.

First, Snopes isn't always right, although...

Second, they are often right-leaning. (They're a fairly good resource, but should never be taken as the final word or definitive answer.)

Third, all this crap is a pesticide (biocide)! Would you ingest a pesticide? If not, why are you giving it to the ones you love? All these products have serious and devastating side effects and it doesn't take a lot of time or effort to find good information. (After all, we have the world at our fingertips.) Regardless of whether it's Bravecto, Comfortis or any of the other nightmare products, it's all dangerous. It's not that hard to use non-toxic products to keep fleas and ticks off your pets and even yourself and out of your yard. It does take a little more effort than shoving a pill down a pet's throat, however.

Fourth, it's the EPA that "regulates" these products. The EPA does it because they are classified as pesticides, not medications.

Lastly, it's just not that hard to use non-toxic, natural, safe methods to control and eradicate fleas. Your pet is worth it.

well, two collars, one for each PUPPY. Some sort of plastic thing that lasts 8 months. I explained that my pups were all into biting each other and especially each other's necks. They chewed up regular collars so no way was I putting poison on their necks for them to chew on. AND if they broke it, I was out $65 each!

Uh, no thank you.

Topical stuff, whether collars or liquids, are just as bad as the ingested stuff. All are "regulated" (and I use the term loosely) by the EPA because they are pesticides, not medicines. Moreover, all the reliable research shows that collars don't work. And to think they wanted to put that crap on a PUPPY is unconscionable!

the vet himself is very understanding about what I choose since I did have a dog react to vaccines before.
