(20,878 posts)No one wanted this old camera either being sold on ebay.com. I got it for .99 cents and wow, it takes great pictures IMO!

(4,421 posts)I have a feral I feed who has a continuous lower resp. infection and the vet tried 3 meds and none cleared it up completely so she stays on antibiotics to keep it under control. I give her supps too. She lives in my yard. My kitties have all been adopted off the street from being dumped or abandoned.
CountAllVotes
(20,878 posts)They did no good. It is a chronic problem but hey, I love her anyway!

(4,421 posts)She seems to respond well to it. 3 times a week. I tried everything to help her and she crashes if I take her off the meds.

Soon the kitty medicine cabinet will be running over with "supplies".

(273 posts)Thanks so much for posting. I adopted my fur-baby, Bella, from a shelter 10 years ago. She was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure to the point where it became painful and difficult for her to breathe. We had to make the difficult decision to let her go, and she was put to sleep on March 20th, while I held her in my arms. I have never had to put a pet to sleep, and this week has been very hard for me. My husband and children encouraged me to adopt another, but I cannot at this point because I do not know if I will be able to bear to say goodbye again. I just happened to come across your post, and am so grateful that I did as it brings some solace. I hope I can come to the point where I can adopt from a shelter again, as I know there are so many that need loving homes. Enjoy your sweet baby, Missy.

(20,878 posts)The time will come when you are "ready". You'll know when that is!
Time = the great healer in life.
I thought after poor Julie died, I'd never adopt another kitty again! Her death was so tragic it has scarred me for life just thinking about it.
As for you, get well soon! I am so very sorry & yes, I sure do understand the pain!

(113,701 posts)grant you both many years of love and joy.
if there is a holistic vet in your area, check about echinacea and goldenseal, which I gave my kits when they had respiratory problems.
by the way, Missy looks almost identical to the abandoned kitteh who adopted me, except that he's a he!!
CountAllVotes
(20,878 posts)and YES, there is a holistic vet where I live but said to be the rip-off of the year! I dislike greedy greedy people!
The vet I took her too tried to sell me a bag of Composure for my Silver as I fear taking him to a vet being he weighs 20+ lbs. and has been coughing abt. once a day. Does he have a cold? Is it a hairball? I don't know and wanted to take him to have him checked out but he is really scared all of the time and wow, huge teeth and claws, hence the reason for possibly trying Composure on him. They wanted $40+ tax for it. I cried BULLSHIT out loud and did not buy it from them.
I found it at Walmart for $9 and even cheaper on ebay.com so I have some on the way right now for him if I need it and I hope it works/helps to calm him so I can have him seen!
Greedy bastards!
On edit: Found the goldenseal w/echinacea for sale on ebay.com and it is for cats. Price was $13.00 and likely saved me a small fortune and a lot of stress! Thanks again for the tip! Lets hope for the best!!!

(17,276 posts)I volunteer at a shelter so am all about adopting, not buying! Your Julie would approve.
The chronic virus symptoms you describe are viral and antibiotics can't really touch them. (But some believe it lessens symptoms in kittens or prevents complications.) It can be made worse by stress. I had a cat with it from kitten hood on, and she was better and worse for all of her 14 years. The chronic "kitty cold" is mainly a clear discharge from the eyes, and sometimes sneezing. I am still finding places where she sneezed against a wall or window, and she's been gone almost three months! But we loved her and she was our sweetheart.
They say L-lysine does no good in clinical trials but there are people who swear by it. It does have the ability to interfere with healing wounds, so you might want to take that into consideration if she has one.
And for fleas the best thing is Revolution, a liquid that you get at the vet and which goes on the skin at the back of the neck where they can't lick it. It will take care of ticks, fleas and ear mites for a month by making the cat's blood toxic to them. Much better than topical sprays, collars, powders or what have you.
CountAllVotes
(20,878 posts)It is for cats and maybe it will help.
Not sure that this l-lysine helps either to be honest w/you but woah do they ever push it to death!
As for fleas, there are none to be found around here as all cats are indoor cats and I got rid of the fleas a couple of years ago.
Luckily, Andy loves to be combed so I hit him a couple of times a day with a flea comb. No fleas to be found on him so it rules the others out as they all live in the same house together and none of them go outside.
As for the parasites, seems she had tapeworms. I had the meds for that in Dr. CountAllVotes kitty medicine cabinet and hit all 3 with the medication for tapeworms. I did pay (and pay a lot!) for a comprehensive parasite test on Missy and I got the call back yesterday and the result came back from the laboratory that it was negative. They were in shock that Dr. CAV was able to get rid of the parasites without their "help".
She is clear now and I rather think that the worms were holding her healing abilities back some and since I hit here with the wormer 2 weeks ago she is up at least 1 lb. in weight! She is a force to contend with believe me!
I hate those topical flea remedies frankly as that is what poisoned poor Julie. Nothing worse to witness than a case of neurotoxic paralysis!
ginnyinWI
(17,276 posts)Glad you got rid of the parasites. Revolution isn't for worms, just those lesser little beings that like to chew on our kitties' skin. The only other thing that helps with fleas is that kind of spray you put on your floors that is a hormone disrupter for fleas and prevents them from producing eggs.
My cats are indoor, too. Why would someone want to risk parasites, accidents and encounters with wild animals? Gets expensive, to say the least! My kitties have a screened porch when the weather is warm and are content enough.
That said I just found out about another "danger": my older female cat took a swipe at my younger male cat, who was teasing her, and managed to get a claw into the side of his neck. It developed into an abscess and cost me $77.00 at the vet. Needless to say I'm going to be much better about clipping claws around here after this!
What he really needs is a brother to chase around with. A 12 year old female who doesn't like to play is no fun for my 3 year old active orange boy.
CountAllVotes
(20,878 posts)Missy plays with the two brothers and they are both 20 lbs.+.
She plays with them gently and Andy found a long long cord somewhere and brought it inside to play with her with! How's that for smart!
I know what Revolution is yes. I am not using any of these poisons around the house. I keep the house very clean, vacuum often and comb them all daily. It is keeping things in check luckily and I have not seen a flea since 2014 so all the hard work pays off but it is ass busting work no doubt about that!
I just hate fleas!
Glad your kitty is ok now and sorry to read about the abscess! Where I live they'd hit you for $3-400 for something like that as they are all so very greedy! Damn them!
ginnyinWI
(17,276 posts)I could never get away from any visit, no matter how slight, for under $100. The new one is nicer and smarter, an more reasonable! Never stay with one you think is fleecing you. In addition, they got a few diagnosis's wrong. Should have ditched them earlier.

(20,878 posts)Thanks, you know the horrible story about poor sweet Miss Julie ...
Too sad but it is now in the past but I'll never stop telling people about evil Elanco and their poisons. They sure as HELL know, believe me! She did not die in vain as it is my goal to shut them down and I hope they choke to death on the poisons they sell to the unwitting customer. Shame on any veterinarian that sells this crap.
Thanks for the squeeeeee

(20,878 posts)I'm sure you remember the whole wretched story w/Julie.
It is time to move on now with a new kitty that is in need of care & a loving home!
Good news however! Her eyes don't need much washing any more and I have not heard here sneeze in a couple of days and my Silver isn't coughing much any more either as it seems those big doses of hairball remedy helped him quite a bit. Seems they are both beating this virus whatever it is!
I am so happy for both of them (and the entire household), as they won't be going anywhere anytime soon (meaning no more veterinarians for a long long time hopefully!).
Take care Judi Lynn & thanks again for your continued support!

(206,429 posts)And I'm partial to the black kitties - I found my Felix as a tiny kitten two years ago in a grocery store parking lot. And he also has a white spot on his chest - and one partially white foot.

(20,878 posts)She is in a contest to win more cat furniture! I submitted this photo to them and I hope she wins! She loves the cat furniture made out of sisal!
She is doing much better now. The eyes look good now, no more goop running out of them (fuck that feline herpes DX!) and she still sneezes once in awhile but otherwise, nothing misses her sight.
She is loved and she knows it. I've never seen a kitty so happy to be adopted (I'm thinking she knew she was next to be euthanized being she has been ill).
Your kitty is a beauty too btw!
Thanks again for the compliment. I've been working overtime on getting her well!
Rhiannon12866
(206,429 posts)That really is a stunning photo!
And I'm so glad to hear she's feeling better by now! She was so very fortunate to have found someone as caring as you!
And Felix loves the cat tree, the higher, the better, LOL. He's obviously one brave little guy.

(118,869 posts)Canadian humane society so they save cats all the time. No kitten mills for them. Got my Buddy from there.
CountAllVotes
(20,878 posts)She was living at a kill shelter since August until the time I adopted her in Nov. We don't have cat mills where I live luckily but I know all about those evil puppy mills and their practices.
Please take no offense, but I came across someone in Canada that was debarking dogs. The vet involved got in a load of trouble from what I heard. So, not every one in Canada is pristine when it comes to thoroughbred animals because the $$$$$$$ rules there too when it comes to making a buck off of a dog. Nothing sadder to see than a dog that has been "debarked" and lived a life of abuse. Been there, done that one already!
Sick greedy bastards are everywhere IMO! If they have an agenda, they will carry forth with it be it in the USA or Canada or overseas!

(118,869 posts)Missy is a lucky little lady to have a forever home. I have a black cat too named Twilight. She was from a cat mill via a pet store. And she has exactly 6 white hairs on her chest. I know she was from a cat mill because I hung out at the pet store in the mall and saw kittens being taken out of station wagons in regular grocery boxes and brought into the store. That being said the Vets in Canada have just as a group come out against declawing cats. Thank god.
CountAllVotes
(20,878 posts)That is great news! I hope other areas follow suit. Nothing sadder to see than a declawed cat that is sentenced to a life of pain and misery from this horrific "surgery"! Congratulations on that!
