"Gun Appreciation Day" is modeled after last summer's "Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day."

Larry Ward, president of Political Media, says the "Gun Appreciation Day" is modeled after last summer's "Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day." That's when supporters of the fast food chain were asked to rally outside restaurants after the company came under fire for its stance on gay marriage.

Ward says the rallies are a chance for the public to see that gun owners aren't scary people.

If I had planned to attend this year I would make a different decision next year. You could get shot with the unloaded weapons. If this was attended by the Black Panthers it would have a different outcome. Gun laws would be changed immediately as in the past. Crazy just crazy.

I think what you meant to say is getting shot with a weapon someone THOUGHT was unloaded which is, by definition, a LOADED weapon.

That's easy to prevent -- never personally violate the four rules of gun safety and refuse to associate with anyone who does.

-- not even the editors of "The Onion" could be expected to tell sarcasm from actual opinion. There are folks here with such extreme Hoplophobia that I have no doubt they believe an unloaded firearm can self-discharge.

If you're joking ... I suggest tagging it as such.

But I'm not stupid or insecure enough to believe that king gun grabber the magnificent is going to come terk mer gerns. If you decided to appreciate your guns yesterday, then that's your issue. I appreciated my motorcycle and my mountain bike, respectively.

... but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with an appreciation day. Not when compared so some of the other official commemorative days. Such as ...

... Darwin Day, Rose Day, Pizza Day, Foot Health Awareness Day, or Towel Day (which I do celebrate).

Hey! ... Every day is a great day to appreciate something.
