Gun nut extremist groups on the rise

The Southern Poverty Law Center tracks all extremist groups and found that the gun worshippers are on the move again in terms of patriot groups and militias. 1360 of the former in 2012 compared to 149 in 2008. 321 militias compared to 42 in the same period. We mustn't forget that Timothy McVeigh was an extremist group sympathizer and he killed 19 children (only one less than Sandy Hook Elementary) in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

The general consensus is that this rise in groups is due to the election of Barack Obama in 2008 and his 2012 reelection. Although nothing happened in his first four years, the President, and VP Joe Biden, now are proposing sweeping gun control legislation including banning assault weapons and passing universal background checks.

Daryl Johnson, former Dept. of Homeland Security official says SPLC's numbers are likely conservative. He adds that DHS has not changed re. extremists in the last four years and that is "quite unsettling."

Raw story probably did a better job. BTW, McVeigh killed a lot more adults than Sandy Hook. Come to think of it, IIRC, the bomb killed more people in total.

who while conservative where at least somewhat sane-you could debate with them...then Obama was elected and they have gone off the deep end..I have no doubt rw talk radio, Fox news, rw internet-sites like freeppublic is changing these people for the worse...brainwashing.

I have male friends who now gleefully talk of civil war II and revolution..they where never like this 8-10 years ago...as I said they were conservative but not nuts..now they are raving nut jobs with spittle coming out of their mouths (literally) when the topic of Obama comes up

Thanks for the eloquent and insightful comment, which was right on. Interesting to find someone else has experienced this situation. Arizona is full of your described profile. God help us.

Dance in the blood of victims....
I find it reprehensible that (most) progressives will defend nearly EVERY right... except rkba.
Glad all Democrats aren't anti rights.
