Daily Beast Senior Editor Harry Siegel would not say exactly when the series by freelance writer and gun violence prevention advocate Heidi Yewman would be posted, but confirmed it would run "presumably some time pretty soon," adding, "I think it's a good thing to run."
Ms. posted the first article in the series on June 12, which detailed Yewman's experience easily getting a concealed weapons permit and buying a gun without knowing how to use it. Three subsequent articles were set to run each following week detailing her experiences carrying and then disposing of the gun, but were canceled by the online outlet of the famed feminist magazine after the first due to outrage from pro-gun activists, Yewman said in an interview Monday.
"They ran the first one and they got a huge response, over 70,000 hits and over 2,000 comments immediately," recalled Yewman, who serves on the board of The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and is author of the 2009 book, Beyond the Bullet. "So it was overwhelming to them. They moderate their comments so it became an overwhelming situation for them and a lot of the comments were real negative, how I'm an idiot, how I'm stupid."

(17,502 posts)It only described her experience. And any gun person will tell you that walking around without training is irresponsible. Her article is relevant only to Washington state. Most states have a training requirement.

I actually doubt she bought the gun.

(6,185 posts)Every pro 2nd poster has pointed out that she is an irresponsible idjit for buying a gun and carrying with no training. Then asking a cop to check to see if her gun was loaded.
Are the "Activists" saying she's not an idiot for ignoring any training, or is she a "hero" for showing how she was able to buy a gun and carry it with no training?
Is she a threat for carrying with no knowledge or a danger only to herself?
If she screws it up and fires it and hits someone, will she be applauded by the Brady group for showing how dangerous guns are or just quietly be indicted for reckless endangerment?
Finally, if 90% of the country agree with her, why weren't there more supportive posts for her as a Brady board member?

(18,318 posts)who could assist in training this Brady board member. If she wants it. I recommend she get training.

(24,135 posts)methinks the Brady board member is your reason since you felt the need to highlight her association.
Jim Brady - paralyzed for life is now enemy of the right for having the audacity to speak out...even though he worked for your favorite president - the guy who granted amnesty to all immigrants and banned assault weapons.

(18,318 posts)Ms has gotten flak from many women who don't follow the doctrines of gun control, one of which is women are not feminist if they take up guns for self-defense. This is yet another episode.
If the issue was so important to Ms, they could have shut down comments and run the series followed by a handful of representative LTEs.
They didn't. So they let a bunch of big bad men bully them, or they were concerned about alienating readership, esp. armed women? Which sounds more plausible?
I'm unsure of what you are talking about on the rest, or what you mean. I've never voted GOPer in my life. Have you?

(10,136 posts)Somehow I doubt she is going to get herself the training she should get and is readily available.
Am I misreading the article, or does it really imply that she has never taken her gun to the range and fired it? Say nothing about cleaned and inspected it....
Eleanors38
(18,318 posts)More plausible is the mag saw the series as borderline quality (an on-line series?), and decided to can it. In any case, it could have closed the commentary section.
IIRC, Ms ran into flak before several years ago for its gun-control stances. Those objecting in significant numbers were... Women.
Hear-tell, that is not a constituency to mess with, esp. since it seems women are the fastest growing demographic within those carrying concealed.

(33,982 posts)She should get rid of the gun, or get SOME rudimentary safety training. "The cop thought I was an idiot and suggested I take a class." The cop was right.
Worst 'journalism' experiment I've seen in a while.
"Today, they have a woman with absolutely no firearms training and a Glock on her hip sitting within arms reach of small children, her hands shaking and adrenaline surging."
Author is, right there, admitting to being incompetent to carry out this 'journalism experiment'. Fucking idiot.

In Denver the guy who threatened a state senator, no charges.

That's how they operate ... Not DU'res of course.

They've been popped like this before. Guess it's a 2nd Wave - 3rd Wave thing.
ON EDIT: Publishing addresses of concealed-carry license holders is an increasingly favorite tactic of newspapers. Guess MSM can play that game, too.
