I'm not against gun-control

1. I like the idea of a background check being accessible to those wanting to make a private sale. (Maybe at a gun show, maybe at a yard sale, maybe to my brother-in-law...)
2. I like the idea that property/venue owners set firearm rules. (OC, CC, mounted on your jeep...)
3. I don't like OC but I would stop short of making it a universal misdemeanor.
4. I think shall issue CC that requires training, tested accuracy... is a good idea.
5. I think mag limits are fine with the limit set about 20 and that's for in public. 50 round drum mags are fine for a trip to your basement or a walk around the back 40.
6. I'm mostly okay with the NFA provisions but I'd like to see the 1986 cutoff eliminated and have things like suppressors treated the way most European countries treat them.
7. I'd prefer to have higher standards for LEOs that carry than many jurisdictions have now.
8. I think most jurisdictions should have a LE group that doesn't carry at all. (I also think that the fact that we don't can be partially blamed on the extremes of this debate: The "Your man card reissued" folks and the penis joke folks, I'm talking about you.)
9. As I understand it, Virginia has fixed what allowed Cho to buy guns. The ATF ought to take up the task of highlighting and helping states with similar gaps fix them rather than running guns to cartels.

LEOs ought to be be subject to all gun control laws applied to civilians.

I'm curious if any of our resident "public safety" advocates will join this thread to find common ground? Alas, my cynical side says they won't so they can maintain a facade of plausible deniability the next time they want to claim, "you gunners oppose all reasonable controls because you're fanatics!" in order to silence debate.

...and thanks for the reply.

Off duty uniformed officers should absolutely follow the same rules as civilians.
Detectives and management level I'm undecided.

They tend to be all mouth and no study/knowledge. They're timid in tendering suggestions, since doing so would expose their ignorance.

It will surprise me if any of the control people speak up but I know the host over there seems to show up a lot. I am sure he will be here any minute.
