Anyhow, where the fuck this "paralegal" noise came from has always had me baffled; I assume our "professor" here has got it from the dank, dark right-wing gun-militant corners of the internet where it circulates, and where DU's gun assholes spend their lives. A person with an undergraduate arts degree and a professional degree in law, who has been called to the bar and admitted to practice as a solicitor, doesn't generally decide to go be a paralegal. Paralegals do conveyancing and maybe the odd bit of research. That's not what I have ever said I do.

It's so simple. I was a lawyer; I practised law. I am no longer a lawyer; I no longer practise law. I work on contract, partly for the government, doing something else, and what I do involves reading reams and reams of law, public policy analysis, public and interest group opinion about public policy, and stuff like that, day in and day out, and often late into the night.

That's all I've ever said, and it's what I've always said.

Believe it or not; I couldn't care less. But don't make shit up, 'k? It just makes you look like ... a liar.

Over time she said she was in the legal biz and elsewhere claimed not to be a lawyer. Same thing about her politics, finances, etc.

She goaded many but also had her own hot buttons. I forgot a capitalization and it got past the spell checker once and you would have thought I had assassinated POTUS from the ruckus she raised.

It is interesting to see that she has access to Meta, which is supposed to be closed to non-members. Also other DU members appear to be posting at her vanity site as well.

I didn't mind her. She came up with some fairly intriguing arguments sometimes, just couched in obnoxious language. Hoyt and BongBong are more inflammatory than I ever saw her being. Then again, I'm comparatively pretty new here.

I think our more brash denizens reflect well on us, to be honest. Our skin is thick enough that we can mix it up with them and debate on the merits of our ideas, without being too sensitive about the name-calling.

While some here in DU may intend it to be a mild insult, the actual effect is another matter.

I use it because it's easier to type then the official name and pretty much everyone knows what the "gungeon" is.

Edit: And I think that regardless of what other name is chosen or if the actual official name is kept, this will still be called the "gungeon" by most.

A little story.

When I was in the navy, I was at a base (can't remember which one now as it's been awhile) where sailors would cut across open areas to get where they needed to go. The paths were well worn. Then the base put in sidewalks in that area but the sailors kept using the dirt paths. Soon there were signs warning to keep off the grass and stay on the sidewalks but these were ignored.

The base should have put the sidewalks where the paths were instead of essentially wasting money and trying to fight a losing battle.

Keeping the name of Gun Control & RKBA or changing it to a another will not keep most everyone here at DU from calling this group "The Gungeon".

Or have them stand mail buoy watch.

On my first ship, an ET was sent down in the holes to ask for a BT punch. The snipes who worked down there were BTs (Boiler Technicians). The clueless ET asks the first BT he sees for a BT punch and of course, he gets punched. Mad, the ET yells at the BT and demands a BT punch. The poor ET got the shit beat out of him by all the BTs there.

In boot camp I got assigned earthquake watch once because I had pissed of the Recruit Company Commander for some forgotten reason. I had to stand facing the bulkhead with my nose touching the wall. If an earthquake happened and the wall started to shake, I was to do an about face and yell "Earthquake! Earthquake!". There aren't very many earthquakes in Orlando, Florida.

"Gungeon" is two syllables. Anything that's descriptive turns into a hideously long multi-syllabic thing that people won't say, much less type or even abbreviate.

"Gun Group" probably isn't specific enough, as it would imply sport and recreational shooting topics as well as gun politics and self-defense. Although most people that don't call it the Gungeon just call it the "Guns Group" or "Guns Forum".

If we go with anything, we should just call it "Guns Group" and leave it at that.

I don't want to go with some stupid name like "Armed Citizen Group" or "2nd Amendment Group".
