My wife got her own EDC today.

I never was much of a fan for DAO SD pistols until I felt the trigger on this little pistol. The group you see was shot at 9yds.

She decided about a month or more ago to get her CHP without any input from me. She scheduled her class, decided on what firearm she wanted from a wide selection the trainer brought and laid out for show and tell. Basically the class was made up of 5 or 6 social workers and a few other nurses.

After borrowing a charter arms 38 from the neighbor to see how she'd handle the 38 special she went ahead with picking up this little 642.

I'm pretty impressed, this is the first revolver in our expanding collection, makes me kinda want a 4" 357 now.

in an IWB holster under a light jacket.

I's too big for pocket carry and it's heavier than the Model 642 but that can be an advantage as weight helps tame the recoil of a .357 mag round. It's basically the same size as your wife's handgun as both a J-frames. The longer sight radius coupled with better sights also makes it enjoyable for target shooting as it is quite accurate.

That's a fine gun by any measure. Definitely a keeper (your wife too!). I've been looking at few compact revolvers lately. My gal is getting serious about buying herself a SD pistol but is only interested in medium size semi-autos. She really wants a Sig SP2022.

Taurus 651 17oz to your S&Ws 15oz which is not bad considering it handles .357.

My wife carries the 650, fully hidden/snagless hammer. Nice little gun.

They don't make mine anymore, but it's similar to the 851.
Taurus makes good guns. Never had one single problem with them.

but I can't tell it by the fit and finish on this revolver.

My 9c has never gave me a minutes problem in the 4 or 5 years I've had it.

states, but I hope EDC doesn't come to mean concealed carry only.

By the way, congratulations to your wife, and nice choice.

I have all that stuff in my EDC bag.

Everything from nail clippers to a 30 round pmag (for ballast)

My kindle fire and all sorts of vocation tools for my job.

Actually I lie...my wife doesn't plan to carry full time only when her job takes her out of town for overnight. She may at some point cc everyday but that'll be in the future.

She just ordered a set of snap caps for it. The thing I showed her last was to load one and leave the rest empty brass. She got a lesson on how much she anticipates the round going off. She wants to smooth out her trigger pull.

Its a 20-25 minutes of nowhere until I get to a main road with regular traffic. The EDC sidearm lives in the shoulder holster

No, not really, but I expect that's what some members think we're hoping for.
