The Florida Times-Journal reportsA pickup driver in Jacksonville was wounded by gunshot Thursday in what police and the mans father-in-law described as an accidental shooting.
The mans gun went off when another passenger in the truck grabbed it in a confrontation with another driver, said James Borum, whose son-in-law was taken to Shands Jacksonville hospital.
Let me break it down for you. Two idiots in pickup trucks left the gas station together and and got into some kind of ego contest. Both were raging maniacs who felt the other had a lot of nerve to dare such a challenge. At the light one of the idiot's imbecile friend grabbed a gun intending on using it on the driver of the other pickup, but instead shot his own driver.
These are the kinds of redneck, hillbillies that make Florida the Most Baneful State in the Union.
But, it's not just them. It's built right into the system down there.
No arrests have been reported by the Sheriffs Office.
Don't you find it unbelievable that no one is arrested after a scene like that. You know they put other people in danger as well as themselves. And you also know they were lawful gun owners.
What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

(2,927 posts)You're not breaking down anything -- you're hurling insults and innuendo.
You seem to know a lot about this incident and the people involved given that you don't actually know anything other than what you read. Which is precious little.
My suggestion to you -- if you ever visit the United States -- is don't go to Florida. Disney world is highly over-rated anyway.

Maybe the group should be renamed "Anti gun control and RKBA."

(28,470 posts)This is the place where those who don't get to try to convert the masses. Have at it.
That said, money is a part of our culture. We have finance classes in school (home-ec classes).
Sex is a part of our culture. We have sex-ed classes.
Guns are also a part of our culture. We should have gun safety classes. Not only would it reduce the possibility of an AD if a kid happens to come into unsupervised contact with a gun, but it would actually work toward the real purpose of the 2A...having a populace that was able to preserve its freedoms, by force if need be.

(5,412 posts)Yes, occasionally people with no criminal records, even CCW permit holders do commit crimes with firearms.
However, this is rare.
Most firearm homicides are committed by people with extensive prior criminal histories.
People with CCW permits are hardly ever involved in crimes. In fact, they are less likely to be involved in crimes - any kind of crime - than your average person you might encounter on the street.
People like Mikeb like to post anecdotes like this as if they portray some kind of trend about CCW permit holders. Don't fall for it - they don't.
And of course in this case, the CCW permit holder was the victim, not the shooter.
Don't you find it unbelievable that no one is arrested after a scene like that. You know they put other people in danger as well as themselves. And you also know they were lawful gun owners.
What crime was committed? As far as I can tell, the person who was accidentally shot was shot by a passenger in the vehicle, who had grabbed a firearm when someone else was approaching the vehicle. In other words, the victim was accidentally shot by his friend.
Also, the article doesn't say anything about the criminal history of the actual shooter. It doesn't even say who's firearm was used.

Yes, Mike, it is exceedingly rare for law-abiding people to just "snap" and go commit crimes, particularly violent crime, and in particular homicide.
Most homicides are committed by people with extensive criminal histories. This is almost certainly true for violent crime in general. It takes time and practice to work up the anti-social behavior necessary to violently victimize other people, and this is not something that just happens overnight.

Many times I have used my discretion on a scene and not made and arrest, police can do that, Mike.

(2,477 posts)I'm a cop, have been for almost 30 years. That's why I know that the officers probably didn't make an arrest because they either,
A. Didn't have enough evidence to arrest and are continuing the investigation, which is more than likely the case, or,
B. No one wanted to file a complaint, or,
C. They're going to hand everything over to the DA's office and let them decide whether or not to file charges.
You see Mike, that's how it works in the US, I don't know how it works in Italy.
mikeb302000
(1,065 posts)Your simplistic explanation is bullshit. You cops do things for all kinds of reasons, not just the three you mentioned. In some cases they turn a blind eye and let people get away with things they shouldn't. In others they arrest people for nothing. In many cases cops don't take gun "accidents" as seriously as they should, maybe you're guilty of this one.
Criminal negligence is often a judgment call. This is where things are often not taken seriously enough.

(813 posts)when it comes to gun violence, depending on whose stats you're looking at. For some reason though, it's become a favorite whipping boy when it comes to things gun-related. Lots of states have higher per capita rates. However, for some reason the news is lovingly sifted and cherry picked for anecdotes from Florida. I suspect it has more to do with residual animosity from the 2000 election debacle, which involved a relative handful of players and had nothing to do with guns, than anything else.
