Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumMy recent NRA "survey" call (aka fund drive).
I just received a call from the NRA asking if I would like to take a brief survey on the election and I accepted.
The question was, and I paraphrase, if Obama wins the election who do you fear will have the greatest impact on advancing gun control?
A. President Obama
B. AG Holder
C. SOS Clinton
I answered that I really didn't know how to answer and her response was along the lines of... we agree that all three are great threats to the right to keep and bear arms, a list of exaggerated anti-gun positions attributed to all three followed, and she concluded with a pitch for a lifetime membership.
My response was that I feared Mitt Romney more than Obama and his administration because Romney has actually signed a state AWB and hasn't admitted that it was a great mistake to do so. I said that it appears that the Obama administration has abandoned supporting more federal gun control and that I was voting for Obama.
There was a brief pause and then she said that who I voted for was my choice and that her real intent was to see if I wanted a life-time membership. I said, "no thank you."
I share this story because it highlights many of the issues about the NRA that get discussed in this forum.

(14,628 posts)My dad signed my siblings and me up as lifetime members years ago, so I get all their propaganda. Any day now I expect to see my 2012 presidential 'questionnaire', filled with leading questions, kind of like the one they asked you on the phone.
I can't wait . . . I love fucking with them!

"Makes 'em spend more money and time trying to convince me."

(23,664 posts)And your response was similar to mine although a bit more eloquent. I did tell them that Obama hadn't done anything to restrict my Second Amendment rights and I had heard nothing that might indicate he had any intention of doing so in the future.
I don't know whether or not I'm still a life member. I told them a long time ago that I was tired of their panhandling and scare tactics and to please terminate my membership. I no longer get the magazine but I still get a lot of mail from them.

(12,072 posts)Maybe it is because I don't have a land line? But I get other calls from political organizations.

(34,183 posts)And I received it on my cell. But I'm sure I submitted my info with my cell because I haven't had a home land line for 8 years.
