The LEO that beat Floyd Dent in Inkster MI was convicted folks!

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/floyd-dent-trial-william-melendez-michigan-ex-cop-found-guilty-n466471

An ex-cop accused of using excessive force when he beat an unarmed driver during a traffic stop in suburban Detroit was convicted Thursday on two counts.

William Melendez, who was fired from the Inkster Police Department in April following the Jan. 28 incident, was found guilty of misconduct in office and assault with intent to do great bodily harm.

On a separate count of strangulation, he was found not guilty. Melendez's bond was revoked and he must remain in jail before he is sentenced Dec. 3. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

Driver Floyd Dent, 58, was repeatedly punched, kicked and Tasered in an incident caught on police dashcam video.

Remember - this was the man the Inkster Police accused of having drugs on him - those charges were dropped.
http://www.fox2detroit.com/news/283844-story

the same day Inkster's Police Chief announced her resignation, the man at the center of the investigation into her department is officially cleared of charges.

Drug charges against 57-year-old Floyd Dent were officially dropped Wednesday morning in Wayne County. The charges were thrown out in the wake of former Inkster police officer William Melendez being charged with crimes related to his arrest and beating in January.

In court on Wednesday, the prosecutor's office cited insufficient evidence for the reason to drop charges against Dent.

The beating and arrest in late January was caught on police dash cam video. Dent admitted to running a stop sign that initiated the arrest but says police went to far and even planted cocaine in his vehicle to get the charges.

Mr. Dent also settled his civil suit for 1.4 million dollars. At the tax payers (not the cops) expense.

Will be posting their 'flat zero tone' post about a black little girl who kicked a puppy any minute now.

Funny - two in particular have been VERY vocal about their tacit disapproval of the black university students STICKING UP FOR THEMSELVES. I'm sure you know precisely who I'm talking about.

They would never ever post a clap or an approval for the jury in this case. NEVER. It's what they are. I expect the 'but he shouldn't have been' post from one of the two any minute now.

Waiting.

The total lack of consequences has had an enabling effect. I think our entire justice system needs a vast overhaul, but if we could even just get more arrests of cops who kill or beat people of color, more cops might wake up and think "Wow, this might get me in trouble if I do this."

some reason, I am really encouraged by the number of civil lawsuits -- in the tens of MILLIONS of dollars -- that are being waged against cops that kill with little to no provocation.

So fire them, jail them and/or sue. I'm good with all of those options.

behind bars wont do it. Helps sure, but the only way to stop this is to make it a financial issue.

Eventually, if the teaparty get their way, unbeknownst to them, they will be next so they should support these lawsuits.

http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/floyd-dent-settles-suit-with-city-of-inkster-for-14-million/33251644

This happened last May

Floyd Dent has settled his lawsuit with the City of Inkster for $1.4 million.

However for Dent, who was beaten by Inkster police in a shocking attack caught on video earlier this year, becoming a millionaire is less important than improving police relations with the communities they are supposed to serve and protect.

Given the choice, Dent would rather be broke and never have had this happen.

Woman Arrested After Pulling Gun On Black Man In 'Self Defense'

"According to News Channel 5 Nashville, Sherry McLain, 67, was leaving the retailer last Saturday when James Crutchfield, 52, asked her if she had a lighter. Frightened, McLain pulled out a gun and reportedly threatened to shoot him.

That’s when a strange man approached, surprising her, and she pulled her revolver. I have never been so afraid of anything in my whole life I don’t think, said McLain. This guy is the bad guy and I’m the one in handcuffs walking away."

I've been seeing more and more arrests/trials/convictions of cops. Yet still more fresh cop violence, too.

It's interesting that what the "threat" is was never mentioned in the video. It's just a foregone conclusion in her mind that black male means violence and we all should get that But this is really a positive move to charge her. Kudos to that Nashville PD.

I totally forget the name of the man, but I think it was this summer that he was convicted for the shooting death of a young black woman whose car stalled and went to his house looking for help. She did nothing but knock on his door before blasting her into oblivion. He cried like a baby during conviction, I'm sure fully realizing how sick he is besides snuffing out a life.

It took my family 5 years, 5 fucking years to clear my brother of all charges. I just can't imagine the agony of so many men and women who've languished and are languishing for years without recourse.

In our case, without any video, those assholes were tenacious and kept popping up again and again no matter how many cases won, or how many felonies they were racking up on themselves. My blood is boiling right now but I say it once and I'll say it a million times, it's about awareness and, worse still, perception. I hate to sound like a broken record but how could a jury acquit in less than 15minutes on proven trumped charges convicted on, if it was not for the horrific murder of Freddy Gray.

Unless they see video of the actual brutality/murder, Sandra Bland's case and many others remain in limbo, still "under investigation." So many people require actual real-time blood and gore to be moved to see us, as well as the poor, as human beings. Good Lord, I saw a dashcam of a police stopping a man racing his pregnant wife to the hospital. Yes, he was brutally beaten for pleading for his wife's and baby's lives. One cop says to the other, "The camera is on." Reply, "I don't care about the damn camera," and kept on beating.

The judges, the prosecutors and public defenders are all in cahoots and I just hope it doesn't take too many more vicious killings on camera to get the public to wake up and act as one.

Thank you! It is a celebration and I get so caught up in anger for those who I'm/we're powerless to help right now. Melendez was fired, facing criminal charges. There's an interim police chief in charge. Dent is victorious. My brother is victorious, this of course changed his life converting him to an energetic activist helping with cases of the many young men he met while incarcerated. It's a beautiful, beautiful thing.

I will take your advice for Balance. I will celebrate while understanding the battle still goes on Thanks.
