I would LOVE to reply and explain my issues with this question asked in GDP...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12511207459

Just the idea that racism is discussed like it is an item- or an idea- that you blithely drop into a trite sentence, asking someone (a candidate!) how they will snap their fingers and make it disappear.
As if racism was an amusing puzzle to solve. Let's set up a dunking booth for those who fail! Because THAT is what's important, the game.

But.....I only have one hide left. I will not reply. I will not reply.

note for the jury: THIS IS THE AFRICAN AMERICAN GROUP / AND QUITE RELEVANT

Who would take time and write those things if they didn't really care about the topic? Why would the OP even start burning that kindling - in that forum - in the first place??

They just seem like dicks to me. Like some little high school clique. And that Bonobo person is supposed to be some great DU thinker held in high esteem?? for what??

Makes me appreciate the regular posters in this group if that is the best that DU has to offer....

I've been reading many of your posts as well - and like many folks around the AA forum, you have clarity and a spirit of trying to learn, understand, and teach. You aren't the only person like this, but unfortunately, voices are getting muted over silliness and nonsense.

Which is a long winded way of saying why I chose to respond in the first place!

And if there isn't an old adage already that addresses this, then everyone in this forum could make a hell of a strong case for creating one ourselves.

Disclaimer: I'm a smug white guy, but even I can recognize an obvious dumbass post when I see it.

Note to my prospective jury: the cited post is far more inflammatory and over-the-top than this one, so please bear that in mind.

That this is not a subject that has been beaten into the mud since . . . Damn - since forever as far as I can see.

But but but - Different people who have totally separate histories and entirely different rhetoric aren't being treated in exactly the same manner by a group I dislike and it's SO UNFAIR!!!

I get so angry when you don't allow me to EXPLAIN how you guys are totally MISSING THE POINT!!!

It's like they read nothing.

Repeat after me kids: yes, there are legislative remedies for structural racism that go beyond economics. No one is suggesting changing anyone's brain.

acknowledge "wedge issues" - instead of stealthily avoid them.
You can tell who was attracted to the Bernie who was above "identity politics", and is now bitter that cannot ignore huge segments of the Dem party.
Even though Bernie has made improvements and inroads, they want to blow it up and be Indies "going it alone". Remind you of anybody?

and successful only because of- his total avoidance of "wedge issues". They were excited about his candidacy, and had never really considered how this would play out on the national stage. Like a lot of others, they were excited to get back Dem voters we've lost and Indies. But they really had not thought of the cost to the Dem base. They assumed Bernie would "do the right thing" and only realized after we spoke about it that he needed to say and do more. Because you are not dissing my "established" relationship with PP in order to get votes from conservative fire men. Fuck anyone who demonizes Planned Parenthood.

absurd statements about all kinds of stuff they know absolutely nothing about.

I am not saying all white people do this, but all white people enjoy the privilege that allows them to do this and then act like they know what they are doing or talking about.

White people caused racism, and white people have to fix it.

You start with reparations, until you are ready to say you are willing to PAY reparations, you are not a serious person on this topic.
