What are you reading the week of Sunday, June 14, 2015?

My apologies to all - I had meant to post this thread much earlier in the day, but when I logged on to DU this afternoon, this was the awful news that greeted me: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=6835347

I'm simply not able to discuss books right now.

But, please, do make this thread about the books you are reading. If you want to comment about Jackpine Radical's passing, please do it in GD.

Good night, and bless you all...

We had the long decline of WCGreen who was a treasure. Now xchrom and JackpineRadical who left us so suddenly. The fact that so many here have been touched by these great minds shows that DU is a real community. These 3 will be sorely missed as will others who have gone without a word as to why. Some of us have health issues that are quite severe, I'm thinking now of our labor giant, OmahaSteve, but others cope with chronic afflictions. The compassion that our DU sisters and brothers show when one of us is in trouble, sick or died is proof of a great character that belies the scabbles.

May our brothers and sisters who have shared so much wisdom with us, rest in peace. And my their astute thoughts live on in us.

Last week I read The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson. There were some very bad people in that one. Now I'm reading Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel.

Mrs. Enthusiast finished Sweetland by Michael Crummy in around 24 hours. She loved it as I did. Then she read The Long Shining Waters by Danielle Sonsin which she also enjoyed. She is now reading Savage Run by C.J. Box. She is all caught up in this one.

by Lisa Gardner. A psychological thriller and police procedural where not everything is as it appears to be. Written in 2014. It's rather creepy and disturbing but also painfully repetitive so it's not an altogether enjoyable read. Some people liked it, obviously, but I am anxious for it to be done.

Plus feeling quite down.

A very well done blend of action, riddle solving, and intrigue, while traversing Florence, Venice, and Istanbul. The ending was thought provoking and unusual. A real page-turner. If you liked "Angels & Demons" or "The Da Vinci Code", you'll probably like "Inferno".

On the negative side, the curves he threw were pretty far-fetched. Also, there was a minor section which went over my head.

Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Very quick read (too quick -- I really didn't want the book to end!) But I loved it.
