But the weirdest thing was when play was halted because of a whistle from the stands. How is that not a penalty on the home team?

especially if that's the first time it's happened in the game. Now, I would've been fine with the refs warning the crowd that if anyone ELSE blows a whistle ND would be penalized for delay of game.

Toussaint looked like he was going to get AT LEAST a first down, if not more.

I agree that it was a jackass move, even though it did help my Irish. However, the problem with having an automatic penalty is that it could still lead to shenanigans from the crowd. If say you gave the visiting team an automatic 5 yards, don't you think that fans from said visiting team would blow whistles just to help their team get those extra yards?
