Look, i'm as into statistical analysis as anyone, but some of the "advanced" metric fail the eye test.

The diminishment of the RBI is one example, as well as batting average.

Since this has only been done a handful of times in baseball history, it is such a major accomplishment that no amount of WAR, OPS, Range Factor, ad nauseum, will convince me that we just SAW one of the great hitting years ever.

I think too many people saw Moneyball (which i like a lot) and think that all these new stats are actually using the advanced combinatorial equations they show in Pete's papers. Frankly, i don't believe that's true. I think a lot of these are retrogressions to fit success already established by any other measurement. (As in, "gee, Babe Ruth's OPS and WAR in 1927 were the top of the league and the numbers prove it." Well, duh!)
