Euro 2020 to be held in a dozen cities across Europe


(Toronto Star) Beginning in 2020, the European football championships will be the first major global sporting event to break the one tournament, one (or occasionally two) host model.

UEFA head Michel Platini announced this week that the event would be staged in “12 or 13 cities” spread across the continent. Platini called his own idea “zany.” (That Jerry Lewis fixation is still scarring French culture)

The Frenchman is an embryonic Sepp Blatter — and not only because he is almost certain to succeed his Swiss nemesis as head of FIFA in three years time. He’s also fond of combining self-aggrandizing with the stiletto in the back.

“I got congratulations from the head of FIFA (for the plan). He said it is a marvellous idea,” Platini said. “He said somebody wanted to do it a few years ago with the African Nations Cup and it was Gadhafi.” ....................(more)
