This strange thing in today's baseball history:

1992 - The Giants announce that the team has been sold to Tampa Bay investors for a reported $110 million and will move to St. Petersburg for the 1993 season. Other owners will block the move in November, but one benefit is that the 1992 season finale becomes the first sellout at Candlestick since the 1989 World Series.


That was Bob Lurie trying to sell the team to Vince Naimoli. He then sold it to Peter Magowan.

BTW this was the time that the A's gave up their rights to the South Bay AND it was the year the Giants got Barriod Bonds. All because of the rotten attendance after the 1989 World Series and the fear of the Giants moving away.

been a Pirates fan. Also, barroid would never have become a joke.
