New York City businessman and billionaire Donald Trump said Tuesday that he has been contacted by a group looking to purchase the Buffalo Bills.
"People have actually talked to me about the Bills," Trump told WBEN radio in Buffalo, N.Y. "I mean, the group of people called me -- would I be interested in investing, and I'll take a look at it. I mean, I look at a lot of things. I'll take a look at it."
Since the death of owner Ralph Wilson last week, speculation around the Bills' future in Buffalo has increased. Trump said he would like to see the team stay in the city.
"I know so many people in Buffalo, and they have asked me about looking at that and I certainly would look at it, but I would ... if it were me, I'd keep the team in Buffalo," he said. "I think it's something that is really vital to the area. ... It would be catastrophic, in my opinion, if Buffalo lost the Buffalo Bills."

(3,269 posts)Hundreds of Buffalo Bills fans turned out Sunday afternoon to celebrate the life of Ralph C. Wilson Jr., honoring the memory of the teams only owner in what many said was the best way they could think of: by tailgating.
The overnight snowfall didnt stop the crowd from gathering in a muddy parking lot owned by Wings Flights of Hope and partying for hours, as if it were a Sunday during the fall.
Decked out in Bills colors and the usual outfits, the fans pulled out grills, sat in lawn chairs, drank beer and mingled just as they do before a Bills game as they remembered the man many credit with bringing football to Buffalo and keeping it here.

An Irish wake for Ralph Wilson by the same fans who cheered a dejected Scott Norwood a few days after "wide right."

(3,269 posts)My sense is that they wouldn't take to Trump, although battling for blue collar underdogs might actually change Trump's perspective.

(9,350 posts)Yes, Donald Trump claims to be a billionaire, but myself and many others question the truth of his statements. I realize he says he would be part of a group and that would allow him to put in less money, but I still wonder if he has enough cash on hand to be a part of the group.

(17,087 posts)Forbes has the Bills at $830 million as of 2013. #30 in the NFL, ahead of Jacksonville and Oakland. And just behind St Louis. So a couple hundred million would go a long ways towards ownership of the team. Donald has that kind of money to throw around if he wants, maybe more.

(3,269 posts)NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is from WNY and hopefully he'll help. But it may all come down to money, and the Bills would be worth much more to NFL owners in L.A.
Jim Kelly had been putting together a consortium to buy the Bills but his tough battle against cancer probably needs all his energy now.
For a while now I've had a feeling that I will not live to see the Bills win a Super Bowl. I'm slowly becoming certain of it, which is kind of heartbreaking after all these years.

(17,087 posts)The AFC East should open up post Brady, and a new era will start in Buffalo, assuming they stay put. Once you make the playoffs all things are possible. Hang on for another five years or so.
