Michael Vick: I can help the Jets get to a Super Bowl

Jets quarterback Michael Vick may be a backup, but he’s a backup with a lot of confidence in what he can bring to his team.

“I just feel like I can help any football team, any organization, particularly this football team, get to a Super Bowl,” Vick told Gary Myers of the New York Daily News. “It’s tough at this stage of my career because I still feel like I’m a fairly young player and I can still keep up. People make it seem like I’m getting older and things are not the same. I beg to differ.”

Vick has never been to a Super Bowl, which he says is because he has never been on a team that had all the pieces in place. But he thinks the Jets may be that team.

“Sometimes, I feel like I’ve been dealt the short end of the stick because I haven’t had all those components over the years,” he said. “I never complained because this is an unbelievable league, it’s a great league and I’ve been blessed to play in it. Of course, I wish I had a Super Bowl and wish I could have accomplished more things. But, hey, I still got an opportunity and that’s what I am thinking.”

Yeah, maybe he can help the Jits get there if he goes to another team!

at first and thought it said "Michael Vick: I can't help the Jets get to a Super Bowl".

It'll take a lot more than him to turn that team around.

That until they get rid of Sexy Rexy, the whole front office, and start anew, they're going absolutely nowhere.

I think their needs and this one they needed for awhile, a QB that throws at the very least a 7.2 YPA (Geno's 6.9 is the highest for the Jets since '09). Vick has recorded around the 8 area which would be a very significant upgrade. One that has a good TD-INT ratio, both QBs have to improve in that area for that to happen. What they don't need is a QB controversy so they should play the best QB on roster - if that happens to be Vick, don't keep him on the sidelines in the interest of Geno Smith's develop.

Running game will always be solid for the Jets. They recently acquired Chris Johnson who would actually be deadly if Vick was the starter simply because Vick's speed requires opposing defenses to not only defend backs & receivers but as well as the QB himself from gaining positive yardage. Look at Chris Johnson's stats when Vince Young started compared to others. Even then they still have Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell who are solid.

They definitely need a reliable receiver as well as Santonio Holmes to return to form. Eric Decker is a great signing for them.

Defense they've had a lot of change so it's hard to say what they need. They fell to middle of the pack when they were consistently in the top 5 in pass defense. They have a very young secondary but has a lot of potential talent. Dee Milliner fills the #1 corner need as long as he is consistent. It'll be interesting to see 1st round pick S Calvin Pryor and how much he'll be able to help. He was selected over Ha Ha Clinton-Dix who was rated by many as the best safety in the draft, Pryor is the hardest hitter and that probably fills the Jets D need. Front 7 should be solid. Plus, they have one of the best in the business in defensive strategy in Rex Ryan who would be very difficult to replace. DCs Ray Horton and Dick Lebeau have the best recent results and forget about Lebeau the only way I see them luring Horton out of Tennessee and away from Ken Wisenhunt is with a head coaching offer.

I really don't think very many coaches could have took the '09 - '10 Jets to back-to-back AFC Championships w/ a QB who has always been in the bottom half of the league. The only reason why they even had a chance is because of having one of the best in the league pass defense & one of the best running game - which has Ryan's stamp all over it. One other need is an offensive coordinator to improve their passing game.

This team has had many roster changes over the years with them losing their best players (who I feel were replaced with adequate young talent w/ potential to help them for years down the road such as Sheldon Richardson for instance), had Mark Sanchez as the starting QB and a rookie last year, injuries to Santonio Holmes in the same division as New England - all significant roadblocks and did as well as they could if not better most years. 8-8 last year when they began the year w/ a rookie QB, no Greene, Revis, Scott, & thin receiving corps is pretty good under the circumstances.

Even if they have what I feel are the Jets needs filled, they still probably won't win the Super Bowl just like Seattle is more likely to not win the Super Bowl than they are to win it this season. Too many good teams that get in the way. Plus there is still New England who lost one of the best corners in the league and replaced him with one of the best corners in the league.

My point is there are teams in the league that need the nuclear option but it doesn't make sense for the Jets. They made good free agent moves in bringing in Decker, Chris Johnson(great pick if a duel-threat QB is on the field), and even Vick (I feel is better than Geno Smith) as insurance in-case he continues to have struggles and be a pick machine. Too soon to tell but draft pick Pryor could be another addition to the good 1st round defensive player draft choices they have made the 2 drafts prior.

One big potential disaster is a QB controversy and correct choices need to be made. Starting the wrong QB (especially back-and-forth) will cost them the season. Big change from last year's roster was Cromartie, I understand he wasn't heavily pursued but feel he was actually a huge score for Arizona because he joins Peterson, Mathieu, and Jerraud Powers potentially giving them the best & most versatile secondary in the NFL. Certainly helps against their matchup with Denver this year.

Their problems are not just at QB. And the scheme is pretty stodgy with the way defenses are structured in the AFC these days.
