Arian Foster has always been unique, especially in the world of American football. While he looks prototypical on the outside, standing 6-foot and weighing 232 pounds, his personality has always veered more toward starving artist. On Thursday, Foster became even more of an anomaly in the sport, where players often credit God for their talents: Foster declared publicly for the first time that he doesnt believe in God.
Deemed the anti-Tebow by his brother Abdul, Foster came out as the NFLs only spokesman for atheism in a long-form ESPN The Magazine article set to hit newsstands this month.
Everybody always says the same thing: You have to have faith, he told ESPN. Thats my whole thing: Faith isnt enough for me. For people who are struggling with that, theyre nervous about telling their families or afraid of the backlash
man, dont be afraid to be you. I was, for years.
Foster, who was raised Muslim, has been in the NFL for six seasons, and while hes hinted in the past that his beliefs differ from the status quo, he never outright identified himself as an atheist until now because he feared it might have repercussions for his career.

I support that sentiment.
