looks like the real deal. Harper is coming off of a subpar season, should bounce back. Murphy's numbers last year were well above his lifetime averages. Can he repeat that sort of performance? Rendon and Werth stand to improve over last year. After that, depth in the line-up drops off, IMO.

Pitching is solid, led by Scherzer and Strasburg. Melanson was a great pick-up and probably has a few more quality seasons left. Middle relief is a question mark.

I'm going to predict the Nationals finish 5 games back of a wild card.

Middle relief is not the issue--it's the closer.

As far as your prediction---that is exactly what loudmouth Chris Russo predicted last year and again this year too, BTW. We will see.

That is a big hole. I don't think the Nats' middle relief is all that good either. Better hope the starters go the distance often.

Napoli was good but Encarnacion is an upgrade. They have most of the pieces.

Kansas City Royals reliever Brian Flynn won't be coming through the bullpen door anytime soon after falling through a barn roof on his property.

The 26-year-old left-hander was working on his barn and fell through the roof, Royals manager Ned Yost confirmed Tuesday.

Flynn suffered a broken rib and three minor vertebrae fractures in his back and will be out eight weeks, according to the team.

Flynn made 36 appearances last year, with 35 coming in relief, and finished 2016 with a 1-2 record and 2.60 ERA.
