I know, big fucking deal, but...
I shot 68 today in February in Chicago!
But, I've shot 68 before
The first was I birdied all 4 par 3's
This my 50th year playing golf regularly (minus 15 years where the band had me home at 4 am) and I've never done that
I know, big deal but it was to me

(22,023 posts)Especially in February in Chicago! What was the temperature and wind velocity? Did the course have temporary tees or greens? How were the course conditions?
That's a great score at any time, ProfessorGAC. Congratulations! I'm playing tomorrow on Long Island outside NYC and can only hope to shoot your score!

It is truly a wonderful experience when the entire game comes together.

(16,113 posts)I've been golfing for about 25 years and never even had a sniff at a 75, let alone a 68. Maybe there's hope for me yet.

(64,955 posts)But, 4 birdies just on the par 3's will push the score down in the hurry. Easiest holes to bogey and hardest holes to par.
Good players should make their living on the par 5's, tread water on the par 4's and avoid bogeys on the 3's and then go home with a 75 or 76. That's my usual game. Hit it straight. Hit 12 fairways, 10 greens, get up and down 4 times, and make on birdie. Then make that plus/minus 3 and i can shoot a 72 or a 78 and basically have played the same round of golf. Just got a different score.
I was around a +4 handicap when i was in college (played on the team, but there were no scholarships for golf. Just free meals at the cafeteria and free travel (bus) to the events. That and the free golf that hosted us for home meets.
But, i quit playing for 15 years after college (grad school, playing in the band, getting engaged, etc.) Started playing again around 35 years old and just got back to around scratch when i got hit with MS. Went blind in one eye and had to change some parts of the swing to see the ball. Now, i'm retreating to the old man's game of consistent and straight since i'm hitting it about 40 yards shorter than i did in the early to mid-90's.
In this round, i actually didn't know what i was shooting. I knew about the par 3's, but hadn't paid attention to the number of bogeys at that point. It was when the round was over that i realized it was a 68. I think i realized it was at least 2 under, but i got so jacked up over all the birdies that i lost count of the bogeys.
