Writers strike are making ESPN and ABC look to more football.....2 games on Monday night.....

the new thing. They have a new theme song on MNF ……. New song, some country western singer, Snoop Dog, and Mrs Santana, yes, woman who’s married to Carlos Santana on drums. It’s awesome!!!!! She’s fantastic. I love it.

The way they staggered the start times you can watch the ABC game during the half of the ESPN game, and switch over at the end back tp ABC.

I like it!

As I posted on that thread, the problem here is moving these games is a real pain for people who plan trips. Airfare hotels etc. not all fans are local. If I were going to a Commanders (2+ hours) or Panthers (4) game I would almost certainly get a hotel room. Oh it’s on Monday now? Great.

The 10 added games are on ABC. They are the same games that air on ESPN, but they're filling primitive network time by showing the game on both channels. Here's the from ABC Chicago explaining it.

More of a covid byproduct than anything to do with the strike would be my guess.

You are right, it started over 10 years ago, so it's been a while.
With one doubleheader in week one, there were 18 MNF games in 2022.
This year, there are at least 2 doubleheaders scheduled, but talk of more. So, at least 19 MNF games.
