File is too big. It loaded the first time, but no more.
I guess coyote is going to miss out.

Is that what you're trying to say with this old comic page?
A 1945 cartoon and a subject line, I don't get it.

(68,644 posts)Frankenstein Friday: Frankenstein's Ark
This is the third and final story from Frankenstein #2, written and drawn by Dick Briefer, published in 1945.
Not much, I agree. Just thought it was humorous. No point being made.
I'm guessing my image was too big, though it did load for me the first time.

(146,218 posts)The subject line, "Global warming, religion, and secular science", and the pic I posted but from a different source. It showed up fine when I replied and went looking for the source.
Only the OP can answer for what purpose the post was made.
I suppose the ark is obvious, and there may be some who deny climate change on religious grounds, but that's new to me.
Certainly some evangelicals deny science, so I guess climate change is science so you got that angle.
And Frankenstein is a classic Man Playing Creator trope, and "creator", well.
I kind of like the toon, his big body and tiny head, and always getting into trouble!
Check it out! http://pappysgoldenage.blogspot.com/2006/10/number-45-frankenstein-friday.html

(146,218 posts)to really pay much attention to this. But I may have one of my servants read it for me and give me a synopsis.

Your Tahoe place needs some heat, I realize that, and a toasty 75º is quite reasonable.
We don't want Manual and Josephina to freeze.

Me: landlord, bad!
Snobbish, me and my spotting humpbacks from the coffee table and swimming with a couple seals. (thanks, btw, for the warning about that)
And you, and your yacht and probably also exploiting sea mammals.
Wanna come for thanksgiving?
We're roasting a narwhal.
Fuck Yeah!

(146,218 posts)Not for any reason other than sport, because that's a part of what we yachting about people do.
Well, that and looking down their noses at the proletariats who bear the brunt of the bourgeois. Or is that plutocrats we look down on. I'm never quite sure.
I will ask my handmaiden when she is finished personally removing all the sewage from my toilet and dumping it into the harbor.

"Lift up your leg, O Lord Coyote, and rain your wrath down upon them!".
This should be pronounced with right hand raised high, head bowed and (if possible) jowls quivering.

nose in the air
Describes the way someone behaves when they think they are better than other people and do not want to speak to them: She walked past me with her nose in the air.

(7,316 posts)I ride my bicycle to the library.
I bring my own shopping bags.
I recycle.
I vote against republicans.
Most importantly, I refrain from such bourgeois activities that waste our resources like yachting about.
cbayer
(146,218 posts)I guarantee you that my carbon footprint is a mere fraction of yours.
What do you imagine yachting about is actually about? And since you obviously don't know, I would be glad to share with you what it is actually about if you are interested.
BTW, I do all the things you do and much, much more, so if you want to get into a pissing contest, be prepared.

(146,218 posts)Like I said, if you want to know, all you have to do is ask.
Or you and your buddies can continue with your complete pack of false beliefs because it suits your agenda.
It's up to you, I guess.
BTW, is that an official definition or one that you made up? At any rate, I can't wait to share it with the people in my community. It will elicit a tremendous laugh. Thanks, Cartoonist!

(7,316 posts)I used the wrong word in my definition so I edited my previous post. Since you feel this does not describe you, then you have nothing to be bitter about.

(7,316 posts)It accurately reflects my opinion of those who waste resources for personal pleasure. This applies to snowmobile riders and NASCAR as well.
Perhaps you can tell us how your boating activities benefit humanity. Do you rescue trapped dolphins? Do you intercede in whaling hunts? Do you transport goods that can't be better handled by professionals? Please tell us how yachting about doesn't leave a carbon footprint.
cbayer
(146,218 posts)on it every time you use it to disparage me.
I create my own electricity from the sun, use less water in a month than you probably use in a week, take care of all of my personal waste and travel using the wind. I buy very little other than food, and when I do, I buy locally and from sustainable farms. My carbon footprint is minuscule.
I live and travel in places that are obscure and often impoverished. I try to learn about and support those communities.
I care for wildlife whenever I find it. I am particularly sensitive to marine animals and birds and am exquisitely careful about their environments.
You have a grossly distorted view of who I am and what I do which is a fantasy. And the fact that you hold on to it despite being given information that clearly contradictory may even put it in that favorite category around here of delusion. It fits your narrative and the narrative of the "us" that you refer to, but it is a false belief apparently supported by faith. Almost a religion.

(7,316 posts)Don't pull that offended BS on me. You brought it on yourself. I just posted a piece of art from an old comic book that I thought was humorous. I thought I would share. I didn't expect a controversy from people with no sense of humor. And then you chime in with: What are you doing about climate change?
WTF?
Really, what brought that on? I'm a responsible citizen who loves this planet. Perhaps you missed my thread on my love of trees. I don't need someone with a feeling of superiority, sitting below deck in her pleasure ship at her solar powered computer accusing me of having a carbon bigfoot.
Your latest post is priceless. Perhaps you can forward it to Pope Francis and apply for sainthood.

(57,349 posts)If you keep upsetting Lovey, Thurston will throw his martini in your face; just watch out so that one of the free trade, organically grown, cruelty free olives they use doesn't put your eye out.
I'm sure the Howells appreciate everything that's done to make them comfortable, expecting them to understand how the other 99% see the world is just too much to ask.
Seriously, don't let it get under your skin, it's just another tactic to get you to post something that will get deleted. They showed their true colours by attacking you just because you tried to post a cartoon that didn't load.
Just think about Thurston and Lovey and how misunderstood and lonely they are.
I almost feel sorry for them.

(68,644 posts)You see, I was the first reply in this thread.
The image loaded, it was fine at first, how else could I have found one just like it?
Nobody attacked the OP, and certainly not for that picture. It was posted and didn't have any text to go with the picture, what's a person to do but guess?
Another thing: This business of Lovey and Thurston. It's juvenile, it's poor behavior, and it's entirely misplaced. In a word, it's an attack.
I sense, when I read such things, that the person who resorts to such attacks is hurting, badly, inside.
If you've been hurt in the past, there's help for you. It can be meditation, medication, or just getting out for a walk.
For some, professional or informal groups can change a person's point of view and become an outlet for pent up anxiety or whatever causes these things.
So, I'm going to hold good thoughts for you, that you stroke a pet and breath deeply, take a walk, or just know that life is beautiful and people aren't out to get you and nobody in this thread is trying to attack the person who posted the cartoon.
And people in this group aren't attacking you, either.
Take care, I can recommend some great books if you are interested in relaxation techniques.

(68,644 posts)I ran through your link and checked some of the sources.
None of this is new to me, environmental responsibility was long ago core to the curriculum in most public schools and somehow was removed over time, only to return.
But it was never exclusively left or liberal. Indeed; caring for the planet and all of it's life forms AND respecting them and their habitat is very much encouraged, even required, of the faithful.
In "An Evangelical Call to Civic Responsibility", we find many passages like this:
God gave the care of his earth and its species to our first parents. That responsibility has passed into our hands. We affirm that God-given dominion is a sacred responsibility to steward the earth and not a license to abuse the creation of which we are a part. We are not the owners of creation, but its stewards, summoned by God to watch over and care for it (Gen. 2:15). This implies the principle of sustainability: our uses of the Earth must be designed to conserve and renew the Earth rather than to deplete or destroy it.
The Bible teaches us that God is not only redeeming his people, but is also restoring the whole creation (Rom. 8:18-23). Just as we show our love for the Savior by reaching out to the lost, we believe that we show our love for the Creator by caring for his creation.
Because clean air, pure water, and adequate resources are crucial to public health and civic order, government has an obligation to protect its citizens from the effects of environmental degradation. This involves both the urgent need to relieve human suffering caused by bad environmental practice. Because natural systems are extremely complex, human actions can have unexpected side effects. We must therefore approach our stewardship of creation with humility and caution.
Human beings have responsibility for creation in a variety of ways. We urge Christians to shape their personal lives in creation-friendly ways: practicing effective recycling, conserving resources, and experiencing the joy of contact with nature. We urge government to encourage fuel efficiency, reduce pollution, encourage sustainable use of natural resources, and provide for the proper care of wildlife and their natural habitats.
Love this part: "We show our love... by reaching out to the lost."
Reaching out to the lost. I do that a LOT!

(146,218 posts)They tend to get very motivated around causes and I sure support them in this one.

(48,181 posts)Whatever this group is doing is irrelevant. The evangelical vote is the core republican base, the vote they can count on in every election. They think catastrophic climate change is propaganda from satan. Instead their god has given them the planet to plunder and pillage its endless bounty.
