Pew Research: Religious freedom and Homosexuality are what clergy talk about

"Nearly two-thirds of recent churchgoers say their clergy have spoken out about at least one social or political issue."
This research was performed last summer and asked over 4000 people. Here's a breakdown.

Religious freedom: 40%
Homosexuality: 39
Abortion: 29
Immigration: 27
Environmental Issues: 22
Economic Inequality: 18

Isn't it interesting that they would demand religious freedom while trying to deny gays the right to exist?

They must have been in the other 73%, I guess

It's an issue extremely important to us, as several years ago the government attempted to kick us out of the country and subject us to a 10 year ban on applying for reentry.

Seems that even asking about certain issues of importance is considered as blasphemy or something.

If we are ever in need of sanctuary, I know of at least one religion that we will avoid contacting for assistance...lol.

And not just here in Iowa.

More Than 1,200 Arrested in Six-State Immigration Raid

Homeland Security Increases Attacks On Immigrants

At least 1,280 workers have been arrested in a series of immigration raids targeting six Swift & Co. meatpacking plants. The raids took place in Colorado, Nebraska, Texas, Utah, Iowa and Minnesota It marks the largest sweep of its kind ever against a single company. Local Spanish radio host, Antonio Medina, describes the immigration raid as aggressive and ugly. “I went to the plant to see what was happening, but because I’m Latino they immediately asked me for my papers,” said Medina.

Are you wearing a Blue Bracelet?

If you can manage to get a Blue Bracelet, then the odds will indeed be in your favor.

Federal Raid Puts Families In Limbo

HYRUM - If only for a few minutes, Maria felt like an ''illegal alien'' in her homeland - the United States of America.

She thought she was going on break from her job at the Swift & Co. meat processing plant here on Tuesday, but instead she and others were forced to stand in a line by U.S. immigration agents. Non-Latinos and people with lighter skin were plucked out of line and given blue bracelets.

The rest, mostly Latinos with brown skin, waited until they were ''cleared'' or arrested by ''la migra,'' the popular name in Spanish for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), employees said.

''I was in the line because of the color of my skin,'' she said, her voice shaking. ''They're discriminating against me. I'm from the United States, and I didn't even get a blue bracelet.''

Maria was one of hundreds of plant employees targeted by federal agents. But she and her husband were the lucky ones - later Tuesday, they returned home to their three sons.

Will Pastafarians be joining other religions in offering sanctuary for immigrants?

I sure hope so!

It's the right thing to do!

Religious groups offer sanctuary to immigrants targeted in ICE raids

Religious groups and activists vowed Wednesday to offer refuge to illegal immigrants who are the targets of ongoing federal raids meant to combat a new wave of border-crossing from Central America.

The announcement recalled the sanctuary movement of the 1980s that provided safe haven to several thousand people fleeing civil wars in El Salvador and Guatemala, with churches in Los Angeles, Chicago and other cities sometimes filled with people seeking asylum in the United States.

During a news conference via telephone, a national network of immigrant groups said they are prepared to defy federal authorities who are seeking to apprehend illegal Central American immigrants. Advocates said those immigrants again are fleeing violence in their homelands, this time perpetrated by gangs engaged in drug trafficking and other crimes.

“We feel we are once again living through a nightmare,” said Alison Harrington, pastor of Southside Presbyterian Church in Tucson. “Once again, human lives are at stake.”

I asked to learn what Pastafarian policy on sanctuary was, and I found out how much importance is placed on issues of immigration and immigrants.

It's no big deal.

73% is a clear majority. I wish that 27% was higher, but it is what it is, I guess.

There are other religions, anyway. It's just one data point.

None of the others have come up.

In regards to economic inequality, we talked about how those with abundance should help the needy. The interesting thing is our church isn't that liberal either. So yay!
