The bible and gun control: Faith-based propaganda can breed psychotic terrorists

Of conservatives in Southern states known as the Bible Belt President Obama was once quoted as saying, “they cling to their bibles and their guns.” He wasn’t aware he was being recorded at the time and received prompt indignation from Republicans, but his statement was actually quite factual.

History has a long, bloody record of God and various religions being used as justification for killing people with opposing views and the 21st century is proving that thou-shalt-not-kill enlightenment still eludes many fringe-right zealots, who grasp their guns tightly at any hint of Second Amendment desecration .

In Anchorage on Friday, Les Zerbe and Schaeffer Cox, the son of a Baptist preacher, were sentenced to almost 26 years for their part in a plot to stockpile an arsenal of illegal military-style weapons to be used to kill judges, politicians, enforcement officials and their families.

Cox and Zerbe were members of the now-defunct Alaska Peacemaker Militia. Similar militias have gained headlines in the past few years for anti-government plots that involved kidnapping and violence against police and government officials, including the Christian Hutaee and the Michigan Militia, which were founded by church leaders.

9. Delusions, by definition, are generally firmly held false beliefs not shared by others.

When they are shared by your community, they are something else, and much more dangerous, imo.

FWIW, the SPLC is all over these groups, so they can't hide very easily, but they remain breeding grounds for zealots, many of whom are very dangerous.

5. Like zealots that say "no one would want to live in a world without solid religious ethics"?

We are in agreement. Zealots like those are very dangerous.

But it's not likely to be psychosis. It's more likely to be group-supported sociopathy.

I always felt that the underpinnings of groups like the KKK were more sociological than religious.
