Pope suffered minor blow to the head in bedroom injury last year

Lizzy Davies in Rome
The Guardian, Thursday 14 February 2013

Pope Benedict XVI suffered a minor blow to the head while on a trip to Latin America last year that has been identified as a big factor in his resignation, a report claims.

According to the Italian daily La Stampa, the previously unpublicised injury left the pope's hair and pillow "dirty with blood", in spite of which he continued with his engagements as planned.

A prelate who was on the trip with Benedict told the paper, without giving his name, that the incident had occurred at night in Mexico, and had prompted the pope's personal doctor to remind him of the challenges of such visits.

But, according to the prelate, it gave him pause for thought. He was quoted as saying that although Benedict gave his all in Mexico, "he also knew that he no longer had the physical strength to endure these long trips, the change of time zone, the burden of public commitments."

I've got $10 that isn't committed to other causes, but if something comes up I'll spend it there...

I've always been willing to indulge, whenever possible.

ps: Thanks for your howling about wolves. If humankind wipes out our wolf brethren, we are lost, lost, lost.

but I think I can sneak one out to the local Kinkos and make copies (That tech wasn't around when he got his, so I doubt they have anything in the rules from that time as to making copies )

as to the wolves, we need more people to howl about what is going on. I just wish more people would listen and learn that our wolf brethren are an important part of nature. I thank you for your thoughts about the wolves, and I'm sure they thank you for your thoughts and words as well. (I'm starting to ramble now- so I will stop while I'm ahead. )

It seems reasonable it could have been a factor, but I didn't see anything substantial in the article that would lead me to believe it was a "big factor" more just speculation. Not that it much matters, but the sub-headline really isn't supported in the article.
