A little girl made my day in church last week. She and her family come now and then.

On Sunday, somebody greeted her with, "You're getting so big!" when she walked in the door

You never know what's going to matter to people

I sat down behind her maybe ten minutes later, after I finished my coffee. I'd forgotten all their names, so I asked again

As I got all that straight in my mind, she turned around and beamed at me -- and beamed and then beamed some more

"I'm getting big!" she told me. She's six or so

"I noticed that," I said. We chatted a bit. She's enjoying getting bigger; she doesn't think her father worries that she's growing up too fast; and she doesn't think she's going to suddenly bump her head on the ceiling

The thousand-watt smile stayed lit the whole time

Matthew 19:14

sweet. My grandson, after school ended this year (he was in kindergarten), announced to me, "Grandma, I am in FIRST GRADE NOW!" The happiness and pride in his voice just made me hug him all the harder.
