Belgium ban for 'anti-Semitic' meeting in Anderlecht

A Belgian mayor has banned a congress that had attracted several figures from the French far right, including controversial comedian Dieudonne.

Opponents have condemned the meeting as "anti-Semitic", and Anderlecht Mayor Eric Tomas said he was banning it to ensure public order.

But organiser Laurent Louis rejected the claim, urging people to come to the venue, where "a surprise" was planned.

The French prime minister has denounced Dieudonne for his "mechanics of hate".... MORE

As to your question, I feel it will end when we do, sad to say and of that I am not even sure. Anti-Semitism is treated as a joke by many, including a number of people left of center. Like those who love to point out false rape reports to discredit victims of rape and sexual assault, there are a number of people who do the same with anti-Semitism by pointing out false cries of it, therefore any report of anti-Semitism is to be viewed with a jaded eye, even mocked. Some are even more insidious by trying to "redefine" it by claiming it is about "Semites", as if that "magically" negates it when directed at Jews. Of course, there are those that cling to "positive" stereotypes and get all bent out of shape when it is used against Jews (Jews are successful. Jews are rich. Jews are primary figures in media, banking, etc.).

Quite frankly, events like the above aren't meant to attract the right-wing nutjobs, but rather centrists and the left. It is more successful than many would care to admit. The up side is many can still see through the bullshit and confront it when it appears.

... plus I also think that these events are aimed at some centrists and some on the left (as you stated) because the anti-Semitism is already there and looking for any excuse for validation.

So many people today think only of Nazi Germany when it comes to anti-Semitism and seem surprised when it rears its ugly head elsewhere around the globe, even here, as if it suddenly arose, fully formed, from nowhere. I know that a few years ago there was a rash of hate crimes aimed at the Jewish community in nearby Maryland and though I posted several threads about it, there was zippo response. I would like to have heard an explanation for the apathy. I was so pissed that I stuck copies of the threads in my journal as evidence that when it comes to outrage over oppression and bigotry, there seems to be a sliding scale.

There was a piece about all the Jews being rounded up and sent to the moon. All Jews, everywhere. Then a disaster hit the earth and it was blamed on the Jews despite their being on the moon. When people had to flee to the moon, the Jews were displaced and sent to Mars(?). It was rather bleak and it has been a while since I read the piece (I'll see if I can find it).

People are woefully uneducated (undereducated) about anti-Semitism, and this includes other Jews. Like you said, most people think Nazi Germany and the Holocaust, and then dust their hands as if to say "well, that's over now; move on!" We are seeing modern examples outside of the obvious, such as the shooting in Kansas, the flyers in Ukraine and the marches in France. There are more insidious, creepy ways it is infecting an entirely new generation. While many don't buy into some of the more classic versions, some do and promote them quite well. Visit just about any conspiracy site, especially ones about 9-11, and you will be shocked at the level of anti-Semitism. It isn't just the fringe freaks who are touting this bullshit anymore, and isn't just the fringe who are accepting it. There are modern day blood libels, modern day versions of The Protocols, and, then tried and true standbys of Jewish control of the Banks, media, and halls of power.

One of the things I have found offensive is the misuse of Holocaust imagery from a variety of sources (left, right, Jewish, non-Jewish) and the flat out denial another Holocaust could happen to the Jews, yet, one will hear from both fringes how the Holocaust for their "group" is inevitable. Suddenly everyone is the "new Jews," but it's us "old Jews" still getting the shaft in many ways!
