of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito.
The Italian court system should be the laughing stock of the world, and it would be, if more people understood the basis of the decisions against the students.
In the latest trial, the judge has decided it must be possible to selectively clean invisible DNA from a bloody crime scene -- because he is convinced Amanda managed to do it. And that's why she left no DNA, fingerprints, hair, fiber, etc. at the crime scene. All those traces of Rudy Guede, the murderer convicted in a separate trial, were just left by Amanda to frame him, while she carefully went through the bloody room and removed every trace of herself. But not with a mop, because the mop they found didn't show any trace of blood or DNA. With something -- they're just not sure what.
And what is even more proof of her devious skill is that she was the one who wielded the murder weapon -- the knife they never found. And yet not a single trace of physical evidence connected her to the scene, to the victim, or the victim to her. This just proves how incredibly skilled a cleaner-upper she is.
A female Dexter, maybe? Or maybe it was the pot smoking that gave her these super-powers.

The motivation document produced by Judge Nencini alleges that Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were able to do something that no criminal in the history of mankind has ever before been able to accomplish: Selectively clean up their own invisible DNA, leaving only the DNA of the man they wished to frame. To do so, they obviously had to possess the power to see DNA with their naked eyes, know whose it was (something the first Italian court famously couldnt do with microscopes), and remove only their own. And most importantly, they had to clean the DNA from a bloody room without leaving a mark where the blood had been disturbed. This is like removing the underlying primer coat from a cars paint without disturbing the paint job itself. Its like doing a heart transplant through a sweat gland. Its like removing Jesus from DaVincis masterpiece, The Last Supper, without anybody noticing. Even Batmans foes never achieved this level of sophistication. You have to give Amanda and Raffaele credit for ingenuity. Or the Italian court credit for imagination.
Here is a rough translation of the court's logic with my underlined comments.

(19,243 posts)The seven, all members of a body called the National Commission for the Forecast and Prevention of Major Risks, were accused of negligence and malpractice in evaluating the danger and keeping the central city informed of the risks.
The case has drawn condemnation from international bodies including the American Geophysical Union, which said the risk of litigation may deter scientists from advising governments or even working in seismology and seismic risk assessments.
"The issue here is about miscommunication of science, and we should not be putting responsible scientists who gave measured, scientifically accurate information in prison," Richard Walters of Oxford University's Department of Earth Sciences said.
