In a groundbreaking new study, researchers have shown why a chemical once thought to be a safe alternative to bisphenol-A, which was banned by the government for baby bottles and sippy cups, might itself be more harmful than BPA.
University of Calgary scientists say they believe their research is the first to show that bisphenol-S, an ingredient in many products bearing BPA-free labels, causes abnormal growth surges of neurons in an animal embryo.
This disruption of prenatal cellular activity in zebra fish, which share 80 percent of their genes with humans and are considered a good model for studying human brain development, has been directly linked to hyperactivity, according to the study published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Finding the mechanism linking low doses of BPA (or BPS) to adverse brain development and hyperactivity is almost like finding a smoking gun, Hamid Habibi, one of the authors of the study, said in a news release.

(21,115 posts)So I listen to her about such matters....all plastics come from PETROLEUM....so probably best to stay away from as much of it as you can...
by the way my sister in law was not afraid of rays from Fukushima while living in California with a newborn...nor does she fear or avoid all gmo products (she just buys locally grown as much as possible). She is therefore by no means a nervous Nelly when it comes to the GMO's as she says we have been genetically modifying food from the start and not all genetically modified food will be bad harmful. She claims that some will be so beneficial that it will negate as negligible as to the harm of any of it....she just thinks its better to buy food as fresh as possible as best for health when it comes to her baby. And she damn sure believes in vaccines too...do not go around her child if you have not been immunized!
So just avoid plastic whenever you can...

Bisphenol S has been shown to have similar in vitro estrogenic activity to BPA.[4][6][7]
