Ive always like Venn diagrams, or maybe more accurately Eulerian Circles:

Maybe I find ECs helpful, because I find it easier to think in idioms and images, and because I find linguistic logic frustrating. On a side note, I had a sort of epiphany years ago when I watched the Star Trek NG episode Darmok.
