Related: About this forumCan I start playing the Solstice Music now...
My early morning front yard view.
Sorry if this is off-topic, but I got up early (daylight savings lag) and I'm still waiting for my kids to get up.

Now if I could only get a version of these lyrics:
Gods Rest Ye Merry Pagan Folk
Gods rest ye merry Pagan folk,
Let nothing you dismay
Remember that the Sun returns
Upon the Solstice Day!
The growing dark is ended now
And Spring is on its way
O, tidings of comfort and joy!
Comfort and joy!
O, tidings of comfort and joy!
The Winter's worst still lies ahead
Fierce tempest, snow and rain!
Beneath the blanket on the ground
The spark of life remains!
The Sun's warm rays caress the seeds
To raise Life's songs again!
O, tidings of comfort and joy!
Comfort and joy!
O, tidings of comfort and joy!
Within the blessed apple lies
The promise not Unseen!
For from this pentacle shall rise
The orchards fresh and green.
The Earth shall blossom once again
The air be sweet and clean!
O, tidings of comfort and joy!
Comfort and joy!
O, tidings of comfort and joy!
sung by Loreena Mckennitt, my solstice music would be complete.

(9,356 posts)Partial list of other things we hate:
--Babies, especially when undercooked
--Kittens
--Puppies
--Holidays (where TF is National Atheist Day?)
--Rainbows because they remind us of that true story about Noah's Ark
--Minorities (even though some of us are minorities)
--Gays (even though some of us are gay)
--Women (even though etc.)
More seriously - great picture, thanks for showing it to us.

About 3-feet overnight at the house.
Didn't make it to work. Still clearing the driveway after 2-hours.
But I love this stuff.
It's beautiful and fun.
I'll post more pictures later, if you are interested.

(9,012 posts)I've lived in Texas almost my whole life.
Back in the '90's we moved to Baltimore for a few years for my wife's job.
It snowed like a mo-fo one winter and I tried to shovel some snow out in front of our building. That shit was so heavy I damn near had a heart attack in the first 20 minutes. I now have some newfound respect for those who live up there and need to do that occasionally.
We're living in Texas again.

(4,031 posts)...it hasn't stopped snowing yet...
When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck Sayin' "Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya"
At seven PM a main hatchway caved in He said, "Fellas, it's been good to know ya"
For reference, I am a 5'-10" male, and the snow in the foreground (the foreground mind you) would be at my belly button.
That's some serious lake effect!

(725 posts)400 miles east of there, around Massachusetts and CT, no snow, just rain.
Early season lake-effect snowstorms around Buffalo, NY, Erie,PA, and Watertown, NY, even as far east as Syracuse can be challenging.
Good luck with your solstice celebrations and the next five months of snowstorms.

(28,151 posts)I think it's beautiful, except when driving in it. I could do without today's high winds, up to 40 mph. Ugh.
