Do You Believe? Is a Pure Flix release, dropping on 1,295 screens on the same weekend that God’s Not Dead cleaned house last weekend. That film debuted with $9.2 million and legged it to $60m while the even more mainstream (and pretty darn good) Heaven Is For Real snagged a $29.5m Wed-Sun debut towards a $102m worldwide cume a month later. Do You Believe? Isn’t going to replicate either story. It earned $1.25m yesterday towards a likely $4.1m debut weekend for a 3.2x multiplier, same multiplier as God’s Not Dead).

It very well could be, but if you are spending more to make the movies than they are bringing in, I suspect there could be another motive. God only knows what that motive is, but I am suspect. Getting them riled up to move the US toward "Christian nation" laws? Support for war in the Middle East to "protect" and expand Israel to fulfill Biblical prophesy? I don't know.

Have to keep that Christian Army on point...they are so propagandized and deluded. Scary people. You can't reason with the insane.

The link is a 2014 article from the Hollywood Reporter about the practice.

The Christophiles always want any movie about Their Guy to look like a box-office smash. In this case, it was the No-Godawful "Son O' God" movie in 2014.

Which wasn't even an original movie - it was a FrankenChrist thing cobbled together from the earlier TV series. That being the series produced by former "Touched By An Anus" star Roma Downey and her husband.

So - big surprise! The True Believers game the system by block-buying tickets for their entire church membership. Really wealthy con artists like Rick Warren sometimes buy out entire cineplexes, as mentioned in the article.

Going back a few years, this is also how Mel Gibson's "Passion Of The Whoozis" became such a big hit. He pre-sold it to the church audience, which turned out by the bus-ful:

Are they trying to make it look like religion is more popular than it is? Are they attempting to push Hollywood to stop making movies that are not family-style and religious-oriented? I have no figured out the reasons for this.

Unfortunately for us, religion IS popular here in One Nation Under Jesus.

But according to the Xians, that's not reflected in mainstream Hollywood movies. Which are full of sin, profanity, sex, gay people, etc. You know, fun stuff.

A common complaint among the religious is that Xians are often portrayed in modern flicks as ignorant, self-righteous, gay-bashing weirdos. Can't imagine why...*cough*

So again strictly IMO, I think they have a couple of goals in mind when they try to bump up the box office of religious movies. They want to encourage Hollywood to make more movies like this. And think that by turning out captive audiences for these things, they'll make the potential real audience look bigger.

The REAL danger to society, from what I've heard, is people disparaging religion on anonymous Internet message boards.

Supposedly it's driving people away from the Democratic party!
