(8,217 posts)LOL, I love how they used a soup as a movie title.
I didn't like Ong Bak 2-3 though. I mean, the martial arts are pretty awesome, I just don't think the story was any good.
I am liking Iko Uwais lately though, he does Silat.
It reminds me of Shaolin Kung fu... or what I have seen of it.

He's also in Man of Tai Chi done by Keanu Reaves.

(8,217 posts)I am not going to post the final fight scene. All I could say is, this should have been the way Darth Maul was offed.
Then again, it would have made the movie R.
I watched it in Theaters, same with the first Ong Bak. The collective gasps as someone does something crazy in regards to martial arts, and making it look explosive is just awesome.
Wow, martial arts movies have come a long way from "Enter the Dragon". Pretty cool stuff.

(8,217 posts)I tend to go for the ones with as limited wire work as possible.
Which is why I tend to go for these kinds of movies rather than the cinematic ones. The cinematic ones, if I watch them, I go to them for drama and story rather than considering them action flicks.

(8,217 posts)One of my favorites is Musa. It is Korean though, but it has Zhang Ziyi.

(41,832 posts)The movie probably would have sucked. That scene alone saved that movie, IMHO.

(8,217 posts)I have to agree.
I wish I could have watched that live. They had to slow it down they said.

(8,217 posts)I am not that much of a fan of the new one, but the old one was great.
I like the series with his brother though. The one with Ogami Itto. Wakayama Tomisaburo.
The lone wolf and cub series...

(8,217 posts)Granted, I wasn't born yet, but I saw a bunch of them around the 80s when I was still a kid.
Then, I got in to it even more around mid-90s when it finally was released in VHS in America.
Me and a friend of mine were recreating some of the fight scenes. Particularly the fast draw ones he did.
Same with Sleepy Eyes of Death.
I am such a Geek...
It took so long for these things to come out here. I was just lucky that I had contacts from fan-subbers around mid-90s that gave me bootleg stuff.
Must admit, I am glad that youtube and sharing was not popular back then. Especially glad that we didn't film them. I mean, that would have been embarrassing.
By the way, what are the recent Japanese movies out there that would be interesting?
