2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAnyone hear from Ron Paul lately?
We seem to have had a dramatic drop-off of the True Believer Paulistas coming here trying to educate DU'ers as to how brilliant he is and how stupid anyone is that doesn't realize that fact, and the media seems to have forgotten if he is even alive.
Looks like Vendetta Gingrich and 'Ol Frothy have stolen all of the air in the room.

Maybe he is on the border, fighting illegals, the UN, and the North American Union!

(336 posts)A few weeks ago you couldn't move in political forums, even non-American ones, for posters saying 'Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate to restore the constitution!!',
It's like someone's thrown a master-switch and they've gone into standby mode.

(23,973 posts)Where they all dress up like John Galt and bore each other to death spouting pure drivel?

If you also think that I am a Paulista, thanks for the laugh, I needed one.
Psssst...reading comprehension is an important skill to have in one's toolbox.

(157 posts)if the rules of the community say DU won't allow those people a forum to discuss Republican candidates.

(23,973 posts)Most of them were gone the same day, some stayed a couple of days, but they all got shown the door in short order.
DU'ers are allowed to discuss any and all political candidates, look at all the threads about Santorum today, for instance.
I don't see anyone advocating for any of those candidates, and neither have I, as that poster thought I had.

(3 posts)"But when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where were a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative). For presidential contests, election season begins when both major-party nominees become clear."
Since Obama is the only choice for the Democratic party there's no harm to the Democratic campaign in discussing the GOP candidates and in my opinion discussion of ideas especially ones you might not subscribe to should be embraced. If anything it's good practice for arguing your own case. It forces you to analyze different ideas their strengths, weaknesses, and similarities with your own. Isn't that what democracy is all about and why it's such a powerful political/social tool?

(23,973 posts)I mean, if the candidate of your choice was definitely outed as just another state's rights racist, I think I'd forget that I ever heard of the guy, and deny I ever even thought of supporting him.

"Ron Paul EDUCATES" this person and that person.
Between educates and sheeple, I can't stand Pauliticians simply because they insist on using those words.

(23,973 posts)The only problem is, when they start speaking about, say, the Constitution and what it says, they ignore settled laws ruled as constitutional by the SC, they want to ignore all that and interpret that document in the way that they seem fit.
