Not that the "two-for-the-price-of-one" couple really needs any thanks for the role they played in the destruction of the fourth estate. Hey, it has worked out really well for them.
When you look at all the damage done by the Clinton years why in the heck would anyone want a repeat?

President Clinton signs the Telecommunications Act of 1996. It is generally regarded as the most important legislation regulating media ownership in over a decade. The radio industry experiences unprecedented consolidation after the 40-station ownership cap is lifted.
Tell me again ... he was a liberal?

(19,537 posts)Bill Clinton was just lucky that we had courts in those days that weren't so right wing that struck down the really crappy "Communications Decency Act" part of that bill that never should have seen the light of day.
Another bill like the one that took down Glass Stiegel that he should have vetoed.

That was the "stand by my man" interview.

(9,522 posts)And met them at a town hall in Manchester on January 18. He was super friendly...she was not. i was shocked the Gennifer Flowers thing happened right after we met them. In retrospect, we thought that was why she was there. They made a big fuss about her being there.

(9,090 posts)it's a big mistake to blame the tel com because that was another deregulatory success for rw talk radio, which resulted after reagan killed the fairness doctrine in 87. that triggered the right's ability to start the rw radio monopoly- a classic psyops as described by the army. that allowed years of clinton hate, republican congress, and lost chances- exactly like obama.
the tel com deregulation was a symptom, not the problem, and the only reason dems have not been able to fix it that continued ignore-ance of talk radio, giving republicans the bully pulpit and complete messaging and framing control with all the leverage to force compromise and enable and intimidate media and politicians.
the left/dem/liberal ignorance of rw radio is still the biggest political mistake in history.
talk radio is the only medium with no real competition/challenge/rebuttal and the only medium capable of actually creating big lies and selling the alternate reality that also has begun to plague the GOP now - trump and cruz and the tea/talk radio party.
it really got going in the early 90s and that directly coincides directly with the rise of ALEC and an increasing record historical partisanship- years before fox.
and how ironic that many young bernie supporters go to the 90+ universities that support rw talk radio by broadcasting sports on 260 limbaugh stations and have their activism undone by their own universities. those football logos will be all over the constant swiftboating headed toward bernie if he is the candidate.
it is a red herring and unproductive to blame the clintons and the tel com deregulation for the current state of media.
put the blame where it deserves to go, stop 90 universities from supporting rw talk radio, get dem supermajorities, and then reregulate media. it won't happen while ignoring the real problem.

gore and kerry (us) 'lost'/were cheated in large part by the left/dem total ignorance of rw talk radio- biggest political mistake in history
so far there seems to be no strategy for monitoring or challenging what's going to be coming out of those 1200 radio stations when the rw think tanks start swiftboating bernie if he gets the spot.

(975 posts)The problem is they're rooted into government so deep that it may take years to get them out. If we ever do.
What third way policies does is give us records profits on wall street while childhood poverty sits at 21%. They starve our children to protect the rich. And looking at that 21% number there's no other logical conclusion but that. They must go before it's too damn late.

(9,090 posts)fixing it? it was always a topic for reregulation- they were always trying.
that rw radio psyops is worth over 4BIL$ per year in free pro billionaire propaganda/advertising.
1200 stations x 15 hrs/day avg RW talk x 5 days/week x 52 wks every year at $1000/hour
that started long before the tel com act and was a major factor in pushing it.
you won't fix that until talk radio gets fixed and dems run the table.
