Max Martin for Congress, 2012

Hello, my name is Max Martin.

I am the Democratic Party candidate for the United States Congress, Texas 36th Congressional District. This very large southeast Texas district is one of the three established, following the 2010 census. It includes east Harris County plus eight of the nine counties that make up southeast Texas. They include Chambers, Orange, Newton, Jasper, Hardin, Polk, Tyler and Liberty Counties.

The district contains a vast amount of diversity, from the technical influence of the Johnson Manned Spacecraft Center, in Clear Lake City, to the ever growing Houston Ship Channel, to the second largest refining complex in the U.S, at Baytown, to the outdoor resources of the Gulf Coast, to the massiveness of the Big Thicket National Park. I believe southeast Texas has the potential of becoming a major part of the Texas experience and look forward to its development.

I feel as though I’ve been training for this office, my entire life. As a young boy, I grew up in a traditional family with a mom, dad, grandmother, grandfather and brother, all living as one family. We moved to Houston, from Caney, Kansas, in 1955. I attended HISD schools and graduated from Jesse H. Jones High School in 1964. Following a year at the University of Houston, I married and entered the workforce , as a baggage handler for Continental Airlines. In 1965, I began taking flying lessons, which lead to my first professional flying position with Houston Metro Airlines. In 1979, I began a twenty year career at Hobby Airport, managing and flying high performance jet aircraft in international commerce. During the years I traveled the globe, I learned a great deal about who we are as a nation.

In 1998, I gave up my aviation career to pursue an entrepreneurial dream. My educational software company became the #23 fastest growing businesses in Houston for 2001 and #54 for 2002. I’ve raised four children, who are raising my ten grandchildren, with the same dedication I plan to offer you, the citizens of southeast Texas.

Over the last few years, following the economic downturn of 2008, we have witnessed an assault on our Congress’s ability to conduct business. The country and the American people deserve better. Time has come for us to think logically about the direction we take this country regarding taxation and the national debt and deficit.

There’s a rule of thumb in aviation. If you find yourself in a condition where the aircraft becomes uncontrollable, return the controls to the point they were earlier. Things were going fairly well at the end of the Clinton administration, we need to return to that model now. We need to send representatives to Washington who will work together to solve this problem, not further disrupt it.

I feel in my heart, I am without a doubt the smarter choice for this office and encourage you to research information about all of us who seek it. I know I can do the job and ask you for your vote, on November 6th. I will not let you down.
My name is Max Martin. I am running for the United States Congress, Texas 36th District.

Thank you and may God bless you all, the Texas 36th District, the state of Texas and the United States of America.
